 I was going to say lard but was afraid the younger ones wouldn't have a clue.
Can you even still buy it? I remember well that 5 gal. buckett sitting in the corner by the stove.
Sure you can. I use it to make suet cakes for the birds and other little critters in the winter. I also use it for making soap. Now it's in the Mexican food aisle at Kroger.Originally Posted by Ridge Runner

Man, deep fried turkey is the best-- if you haven't tried it this way for T-Day-- you're in for a treat!
@ kahlana
We haven't forgotten about you--- you're still the primary focus of this thread---- Enjoy yourself out there--
Have you considered Roehl for School---- that do flatbed and roll side too.
You were talking about preferring flatbed.

Funny. Some years back, there was a study done with monkeys. Three groups that had foods prepared in vegetable oil, butter, and peanut oil. They were astounded to find that the group with food prepared with peanut oil had much higher cholestral then butter, and the group with butter was only slightly higher than veggie oil. So the peanut oil makes little sense.Originally Posted by vavega

alrighty boys and girls i am off the brothers truck and currently HOME!!! i got sick last week and we had a heck of a time gettin me back home so i can recouperate but heres the plan thus far....
now that i am home hit the Unemployment office and see about the WIA as an option for school, get a job and work on saving up for the school (hear tell its a good idea to have some money stashed for expenses for the first few weeks), looking into the local Tech school that offers a CDL course as another option, checking into a scholarship from my Native American tribe.
More than ever i am seriously determined to be a driver. Yes it was a total blast but i figured out a few things....
1.) Most of the drivers out there are awesome but a female driver freaks alot of them out and their number one bit of advice to me was if i want my CDL to get it but to get my B instead of my A and drive a school bus... Do I look like a BUS driver to y'all???????? oh dont answer that.... Anywho the most the ones that dared voice THAT lil bit o' "wisdom" to me just mostly ticked me off and made me even more determined to be an OTR driver.
2.) I will NEVER get bored with the job. Everything is so different everyday... loads, scenery, shippers, consignees... only thing i saw that was the same no matter what was my brother lol
3.) I am definitely doing flatbed... vans are freakin SCAREY... everytime the wind hits it feels like you are going to fly right off the road (nothankeeberrymudge) and yes... I KNOW tarping in subzero temps, high winds, rain, etc etc sucks big time but the thing is... i DID it and i still LOVE it... hmmmmm.... i guess that means i really AM a glutton for punishment (hehehe)
Seriously, the time on the road with my brother totally opened my eyes to the whole thing and I am very glad i got the chance to go with him. So while it might be a little longer than planned originally before i get my CDL it's still the number 1 priority.
Anywho... missed y'all and glad to be home for a bit...

Some day I might try the flatbed--- but, have you considered the extra caution you got to use at on/ off ramp curves-- to avoid losing/ rolling your load off--- flat bedding requires a lot more THINKING/PLANNING keeping your load secure and checked and not rolling those pipes/coils over onto some passing family-- pretty important. I've been pulling Reefers/Vans so
long- just close the doors and haul butt--- I'm afraid I'd get distracted- forget what's behind me--- and whamm there'd be a bunch of pipes rolling
all over the 15mph off ramp. Good luck--
Native America????
P.S. so, If I came by your Mom & Dad's Teepee( Tipi )---- How many blankets & buffalo skins & ponies would I need to bring--- to lead you away?

I believe that in order to get a WIA grant for school you have to be unemployed. They won't offer it if you're working.Originally Posted by kahlana
