I've had Sprint for years now and have no problem 98% of the time with finding a signal. When I don't have a signal, it's because the area I'm in, people probably still use outhouses and have yet to experience a television.

And that goes for the aircard as well.

I used Verizon when I was OTR. Rarely in roam, rarely had no signal at all. I ran everywhere except the New England states with it.

I have Sprint and haven't had a problem in most places. I have been with them for about 6 years. I have been thinking about making a change. Cingular has a pretty good deal and probably the best coverage since the merger or acquisition by AT&T. One thing I like about Cingular is that you can call any Bell or AT&T telephone and you won't be charged against your minutes. If you don't use all of your minutes they roll over to the next month. I spend about $150/month on my phone with Sprint. That feature alone could reduce my monthly bill. I also have a Sprint air card. It is faster than Cingular and coverage is pretty good. Verizon also seems to have good coverage in most areas. From talking with others, Cingular probably has better coverage out West. There are some areas where no one seems to have a signal. I would check out their coverage areas on the Internet to see if it is good where your husband travels. All of the cell phone people continue to improve their coverage.

He has to wait until July when his contract is done, and then we'll go w/ either verizon or cingular (I don't have a cell- but the plan is for each of us to have one).
Decisions, decisions......... Thanx all.

I use cingular and am pretty happy. It has free long distance,

So if you live in IL, and you call Chicago, down the street, or Los Angeles it costs 1 minute. I opted for free nights at 7 (instead of 9pm) for an extra few bucks.

Most carriers have some sort of national plan that is free long distance, with Verizon I have free nights and weekends, and all calls to Verizon customers are minutes free.

I use Cingular and have only had problems deep in the Rockies.

Now that they've merged (been bought out, whatever), by ATT I imagine things will only get better.

When I originally signed on (about 3 years ago), it was very tough to compare rates between all the companies because of the differences in the construction of the calling plans.

Best thing to do is to figure out exactly what you need, then find a plan that hits that sweet spot. Then look at the competing plans to see if anything comes close if you're saving money.

It's tough to compare apples to apples with cell plans, but I think you'll find that the coverage is pretty much going to be the same with all of them. It's an extremely competitive market. Those that don't add the latest and greatest features don't survive.

This is with national - not regional - carriers, though.
