So we're all (rush hour commuters) approaching a 3 into 2 merge where the right lane turns into an exit ramp. It was then that I heard several truckers saying 'squeeze em up boys' . It didn't take long to figure out that I was experiencing a slow speed road rage incident. Those 'four wheelers' are a bunch of 'assholes' who need to be 'scared real good' by 'runnin em into the wall' 'don't hit em, but get real close and give em a good scare'

The radio traffic continued about how one trucker had entered the right lane and was stopping all traffic from 'squirting by' and getting in front of 'us' . Apparently you all have figured out a way to further mess up rush hour traffic and just get all mad about it at the same time.
First of all.... what you HEAR truckers "saying" is NOT necessarily what they are DOING! We talk about 4wheelers with disrespect... because they generally DESERVE none! But, we DRIVE with caution and concern for YOUR lives as well as our OWN! Because... yes... WE are the professionals!

In the incident you cite, the 4wheelers were breaking the LAW, AND causing a dangerous situation by using an EXIT LANE to cut in front of not only the truckers.... but all OTHER traffic that was patiently obeying the law and staying IN LINE!

What makes YOUR time more valuable than MINE??? Why must "I" continue to slow down and back off so that someone like YOU, who was BEHIND me in line, can go around me?

We leave a generous amount of space in front of us while in traffic, so that when a stupid 4wheeler slams on his brakes, usually for NO REASON, (or because he JUST woke up from his cellphone call and realized he needs to take the exit he's about to "whiz" by!) .... we won't drive 80k pounds up his daughter's AZZ!! And then six or seven of YOU take that space away after ILLEGALY passing in an exit lane!!!

Here's another point of contention: WE are often relegated to the far right lane, which happens to be the same one you "supposedly" merge into. Well... when you're coming down the ramp, you are SUPPOSED to be at "matching" freeway speed before you merge! So, why do you come down the ramp like a scared deer, and nearly come to a STOP right in front of us??? Because you're an IDIOT!!!

IT'S CALLED AN ACCELERATOR, FOOL!!! MASH ON IT!!!!

YOU have all the horsepower and lack of weight! You can EASILY speed up within a tenth of a mile and GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!! So.... WHY don't you DO IT???? Because you're an IDIOT!!!!

Also.... with 3 lanes or more going in the same direction, WE are usually forced to stay in the right TWO lanes. That means the second lane from the right is OUR FAST LANE!!! We use this to pass J.B. HUNT and other slow trucks!! So.... with 2 more lanes to your left (that we're not allowed to use).... WHY do you insist on doing 5 miles under the speed limit - right next to a slow truck - and holding the rest of US up???? Because..... You're an IDIOT!!!!!

Are you getting my drift here??? The driver in your report pulled out into the EXIT LANE, to stop IDIOTS from slowing the REST of us down more and "further mess up rush hour traffic!" I bet there were MANY 4wheelers stuck in that traffic that APPLAUDED his action! I've done it myself a few times!

YOU have no RIGHT to break laws JUST because you want to get somewhere 2 minutes sooner than ME!

When 4 wheelers start driving with the LIMITED professionalism that is EXPECTED of them by the States that grant their licenses... WE won't have to be "hall monitors!"

In the meantime.... YOU can kiss my grits! And PLEASE don't ever THINK of joining our fraternity!!! With your attitude, you don't DESERVE it!

A 2 thousand mile "leisure trip" between Chicago and Annapolis! WOW!!! I'm impressed.... NOT!

I don't know why they don't teach these people how to drive around trucks when they go to get their drivers licence

I learned to drive a car from my dad who was a trucker so he taught me all of these things,

Most people really don't have a clue that it takes longer for a truck to stop, and they don't realize that trucks have big blind spots

I know there are a lot of bad truck drivers too

I agree with everyone about the 4-wheelers. Most are ignorant. I have had the pleasure of driving around a few that do understand what it is like in a big truck but in general most are ignorant to it.

Anyone know what happen to Jaseun? Haven't seen a post from him to either defend his opinion or to admit he is wrong and ignorant himself. I have had many a close calls in Chicago from 4-wheelers in a rush and will never hesitate to block a lane. Just safer and makes the merge move faster.

I just love it when a 4-wheeler tells me I am #1. I usually wave and thank them for the compliment.

I know there are some truck drivers out there who give the rest of us a bad name, and it doesn't help that the general public does not percive truck drivers as professionals, heck we are not even considered skilled tradespeople,

the general public thinks that we are just a bunch of morons, who cause accidents and slow up traffic and drive dangerously,

I recall a conversation with a man who complained that trucks should not even be on the road, and everything could be shipped by plane or train, and I asked him when was the last time you saw a 747 or a locomative at your local walmart

well, you noticed they didn't reply back. Another thing they probably will never see is how many of us actualy pull over on the side to make sure those 4-wheelers are ok in remote areas or how I have allowed a car in, or about a thousand other acts of kindness we do as truckers. I've been known to say some not so kind words about them, lol. I think most that have been in this bussiness for more than a week have but in general I still mantain a courtious attitude. I would be interested in this person posting a reply to twilight's earlier post. if they are reading any of these messages anymore.

Pardon the hijack for a moment, but could somebody please explain to me, in my attempt to be courteous as a "4-wheeler" where to stay out of? I have to plead dumb to where a truck's blind spots are. Thanks.

Basically it comes down to this. If you can not see the driver in his mirrors (if you are behind or next to the truck) or in your mirror (if you are in front) then the driver of the truck can not see you.
They should show everyone those pictures when they get their drivers license. It is a huge pet peeve of mine when I'm passing a car and they move over onto the shoulder because they are freaked out by a big truck. "Now I can't see you at all bonehead way to go!".

Yeah they should have a mandatory several hour session where you have to ride in a truck before getting your license. People don't know anything about trucks. I've heard people ask me if it is true that trucks stop faster because of the 18 wheels.

I also had a friend of mine ask why some trucks get on the interstate at 45 mph instead of getting up to speed...

99% of the trucks I see on my day to day are driving safely and courteously. I can't say that about cars. Taxis are the worst though in terms of city driving. Most of them drive so badly they shouldn't have their license to begin with. I had one the other day in the left turn lane decide he wanted to make a right instead and cut right in front of me and then stopped with his ass hanging out into my lane.... Of course there are cars in the left turn lane so I had to slam on my breaks to avoid clipping him, stopped with about a foot to spare...

You hear that kind of thing you'll know how long a person has been driving.
You kinda painted this thing with a Broad Brush.
what movie were you watching?

I would definitely agree that there should be a mandatory course on driving around trucks before getting a license. You have to know how to parallel park, but you dont have to know trucks cant stop on a dime or that you cant always be seen. I cant believe this has not been done yet.

suprisingly enough I seem to recall some very basic stuff in my manual about 16 years ago but then again, the manual covered merging into traffic as well but I only see about 50% of the 4 wheelers doing that corectly. It seems they learn the manual to pass the test then just forget it and do it thier way after they passs the exam.
