Hazmat Endorsement and TWIC

Other than the obvious just another fee that either Driver's and or companies have to pay. My point is if you have the Hazmat or x endorsement you need to be fingerprinted and a Criminal background check conducted by the FBI and or Homeland Security. So why would would you need the same FBI or Homeland Security to run another check. If you have the Hazmzt endorsement they should just issue a TWIC card. Or am I missing the big picture here. I would just like to see your thoughts on this. I have nothing to hide so they can check all they want but it just seems foolish to me.

You would think it should work that way, but....it is what it is.

When I went in to apply for the TWIC I asked the same question. I even told the lady that "The FBI already knows me REAL well..." (A whole 'nother story...)

She said "I don't know why...my job is to collect the money". (Yeah....for the money racket that it is...)

It is just a money making scheme, after all we are 13+ trillions in debt. I wave around my concealed weapons permit, and even use it as a secondary ID, yet I still must get fingerprinted again, it all goes threw the same NICS. It is way past time to stop voting for the same repubacrats.

Lockheed Martin does the background checks for both the hazmat and TWIC, yet they cannot use the same data on either. It is a money grab pure and simple. I have met pilots, construction workers and others from different backgrounds who now must also have a TWIC.

First they are two different background checks. Hazmat is to check for mental instability. TWIC is a complete triple I report that goes back since you were born. For example you could have a DUI in your past and still get Hazmat. However the same is not true for TWIC no convictions zero zelch none or you dont' get one as is the same for the FAST id. With that said I am proud of the fact that I have all three id's and can go into ANY port or country w/o a problem. So if you want to place blame. Here ya go! We have way too many non American people driving on our roads in trucks. so if they can't get these ID's then theres more work for us real Americans. Just my opinion

Oh I forgot. MY hazmat background check was done in and by the Bellingham,WA police dept. My TWIC was done in the Homeland Security office in Anacortes, WA and my FAST was done by our FBI and Canada's version of the same via US customs office in Blaine,WA. Not a private company

I do however agree That once you have a FAST or a TWIC you shouldn't have to pay for a hazmat check or one of the other two for that matter. Unfortunitly due to 9/11 We have to pay for someone elses ineptness to do thier job the first time.

I don't know where you got that info about the TWIC card....but, you're wrong.

Who Qualifies for a TWIC Card?
TWIC cards are issued to anyone who needs access to major ports and who meets the requirements spelled out in the MTSA (Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002). These requirements include:

*US citizenship, green card, or permission to work in the US

**No prior convictions of espionage, terrorism, murder, bomb threats, or other major offenses at any point

***No prior convictions of illegal immigration, most types of fraud, bribery, smuggling, or certain other offenses within the last seven years

****Mental competence

If a trucker meets these qualifications, he or she will be issued a TWIC identification card including his or her photograph, fingerprints, and the card’s expiration date. People who are denied cards based on prior convictions or concerns about their qualifications are allowed to appeal. If you need TWIC authorization to perform your job, it is very important to research the requirements – for your own financial interests as well as our nation’s security.

Uhhh, folks....while we can all agree that its nothing more than a shill game concocted by the ****heads in DC.... there is a minor difference in the Hazmat Endorsement and the TWIC.

CDL Hazmat Endorsement is STATE

TWIC is FEDERAL

I asked the "why" question at my local drivers license office and it was very politely explained to me by a really cute young lady with a really nice smile.... and she's right!
