CAT C15 "BRIDGE" Engine Questions

Can anyone clarify what the deal is with the CAT "BRIDGE" Engine? I am looking at a 2004 INT 9900I with a CAT C15 Bridge engine rated at 525 with 363k on the odometer. I have not heard of this engine designation before. Is this an engine with a history of problems?

I spoke with a CAT mechanic and he said that the engine did not meet emmissions standards. He further stated that CAT had to pay a fine for each engine sold/put into service.

Just want to make sure I am not missing something here.

Any clarification or information is appreciated.

It's exactly what the name implies, it's a "bridge" between two different engines, the pre 2004 and post 2004 compliant engines.

I'd highly advise you to get something just a little older, much less problems!

interesting, I didn't know there was a displacement difference between the c-15(pre 04) and the c15(acert).

Stay away from the bridge engines, they have lots of problems.......lots

run away, everything I have heard about a bridge engine is that they are a big ol piece of s*&(&^&^%%t and I would not take one if you gave it to me.

The pre acert C-15 was basically the old 3406 with a new coat of paint.

I'm running a "bridge" motor in my truck, and I am rather happy with it. 640k miles on the ticker and it runs like a top...it is kind of a rough idling motor, and it smokes like an old mechanical motor that's had fuel put to it at idle..but aside from those couple oddities, i am happy.
