From what I can see, that crsck goes well into that OEM hole.
Yes...It will put you out of service, along with gaining you a big fat fine. It is on the steer.

It's on the steer. Gonna be bobtailing if that makes any difference.

On the steer, it makes no difference at all.
If that wheel comes apart, they won't care that you were bobtail or over gross, especially in CA.

Luckily, I'm heading out of CA to the East Coast. I have an extra wheel in OKC if I can make it there.

How long has the crack been there? It shows as black, from the little I see, in the crack itself, so is fairly recent.
Check it after a rough stretch of road and you will have an idea of how it is handling travel. CA is tough...but NM and TX can be just as bad.

Crack is recent. I-40 in NM was rough last time I went through there. I've seen Mexicans selling Alcoa wheels in Fontana for $30. Perhaps I'll have a chat with them next time I'm there.

I believe I would check them to see if they already have more cracks than the one I was riding on. Alcoa rims sell for about $250 to $300. Either there is some damage on them already, or they're HOT enough to melt... Or at least burn your hands.

The crack also could have been caused by whatever caused those gouge marks in your wheel, further stressing the wheel in that location casing it to crack eventually.

The gouges look like curb damage. I wouldnt ride across the street on that wheel

The Mexicans selling the wheels are gone. I would have been suspicious about the quality too. Someone else scraped the curb to make the marks you see. I was away and not sure if the crack was part of it or not.

The hardest thing I've found is trying to find a wheel. The dealers around here don't stock them and everyone wants $200 for used ones. The new ones I've found are all on the East Coast. Brand new for about $250 -275. The Ontario TA can get one in 2 hours, but wants $400. They won't tell me where they are getting them from.

After many calls I found the Peterbilt dealer has some new ones.
