Wondering if anyone knew anything about Central Transport. They opened up a new terminal around where I live. And seems any other LTL in my area never hires. Wondering if they where a decent company as far as insurance and wages. I make about 44k a year now so was hoping they might pay a bit more.. Thanks

 

Ole "mello yellow", eh? I'll be honest with you. In my opinion, they stink: junk trucks, junk trailers, boatloads o' cheap freight up the ying yang. Alot of the guys they hire round these here parts look like death warmed over.

That being said, they are an LTL carrier and that in itself beats runnin' the road. Hell, the worst LTL carrier is 1000 X better than the best OTR company. My advice: put your time in and then float some apps over to UPS Freight, FedEx Freight, SAIA, Conway, etc. And don't look back, or you'll be turned into the proverbial "pillar of salt" of Biblical fame.

That about sums it up. I worked there a couple years back and I have a cousin and a good friend who both work there now. They both like it, relatively speaking, its just a job. They (CT) are getting better believe it or not. Plus they have been increasing starting pay to attract new drivers. They have their drawbacks and they have trouble keeping people but one positive effect of that is you will work everyday and you should move up quickly. This means alot in LTL world. Its just a job and you will be home everyday. Some of the other companies have better pay, bennies, and reputations but that wont pay the bills when you sit home waiting for a call. In my opinion a good LTL job starts with full time work, anything after that is icing on the cake.
