t600/t800 defrost
 

The heater/AC/defrost fan doesn't seem to blow as much air as it should in my '95 T600 and my '98 T800. The temp is fine, it just needs more air. I need to have the def on full in order to keep the fog and ice off, meanwhile the side windows fog up and my feet freeze.

Is this a common thing?

can't speak for about the t600, but the t-800---you can't get the side windows to defrost( at least I never could )--yep need electric socks...or keep switching from def to floor vent.

If the airflow is truly too low, it is most likely caused by the cabin air filter for the HVAC system.

Stop breathing.

Yes, in KW's anyway, driver side fogs up bad on my all the W9's I have had, there is no cabin filter that I know of, only thing you can check is that all the vent hoses are attached and not kinked behind the dash.

I have the passenger side floor heat vent blocked off, so I can get more heat on my side, I keep the center vents on the dash closed in the winter, and the side ones aimed at the side windows.

then buy one of those clip-on tornado fans and clip to the passanger hand hold- aim at your passanger window and pug in the cig lighter and suck some of that defrost and direct it at the window.

I've had lots of customers that "didn't know they had one"... it's used to filter incoming air before it clogs your a/c evaporator.

Use fresh air, not recirculate, and don't drag snow into your truck from your boots...

Use a "winter front" when it's cold.

I couldn't say for sure-but I bet Bob's right--every other truck I've driven had one--usually located just behind the AirFilter in a pull out compartment--there's a place under the bunk for one there too. It's just been too many years since I've been in a KW to remember ...where it's at.

Come on Bob! Don't keep us in suspense......where's it located? So the poor guy can at least pull that dirty clogged one--get some heat going before he freezes his toes and other parts off.

but last time I asked for one--down here in the lower 48- was told Freightliner Century & Columbia--is never suppose to be run with one......

Because you aren't supposed to block the charge air cooler in front of the radiator, will lead to a massive loss of power.

As far as KW goes, there is NO filter that I am aware of, I have had the system apart to change the fan motor and the heater core and NEVER saw a cabin filter or a bunk filter.

There is a fresh air opening on the right hand side behind the air cleaner and it goes straight in the system.

There are after market filters available, but I don't have one.

As far as the drivers window fogging, I think its because the window is warm and when I get in the cold comes off me and fogs it up, been living with it so long it really doesn't bother me.
