I read a truck had a cat 435 that you could flash to 500, what does it mean to flash?

still........ a hefty pile of cash though. i can make a s60 do a lot of singing without it... for a lot less money (but, certainly not 700 ponies, ouch! watch that pyrometer!!!). |

[...] i can make a s60 do a lot of singing without it... for a lot less money (but, certainly not 700 ponies, ouch! watch that pyrometer!!!). Hey, this new truck of mine has a 1995 11.1L that started out life as a 325/350 but seems to pull as well as a 410hp 3406E cat I was driving and as well as a trashed 12.7L 430/500hp S60  . That big S60 had no low end torque and horrible lag but this guy pulls hard down to 1100 and pretty good down to idle  . I think it has had a GM boost sensor installed to reduce turbo lag (but I haven't verified yet if it is a 2-bar or 3-bar) and been turned up somehow. The max HP possible setting I've been able to verify is 365hp @ 1350 ft lbs and I've seen some mention of a 400hp setting but been unable to actually track down a 400hp spec? I need to find someone to print out the ECM info to see what settings are in there. What things do you know about to "breathe" on this motor? I'm guessing one could put in the injectors from a 12.7L but that costs as much as the Pittsburg Power Computer and doesn't give you the switchable power settings or the boost and exhaust temp gauges on that unit. This truck has 900k on it so it could have been rebuilt and at that point it would have been a free upgrade to put in the bigger injectors if the injectors were going to be changed anyways? I've also heard rumor about a marine and/or emergency version that it could be flashed to but can't find any specs on what that would give you? I'm a bit worried that my motor is turned up enough to break something or fry itself as it has no pyrometer presently. I was told that the thermostat(s) and radiator are pretty new but I seem to be running at 160 and the most I can get it up to when pulling a hill at full throttle is 175 - but I do get plenty of heat so maybe the coolant temp gauge is off? This is the best motor I've ever driven and I hope it holds together! |
