Brakes not releasing all the way
-
I have a trailer that didn't get used this winter and it sat in a damp snow bank all winter.
The brakes are not releasing all the way. Could it be as simple as the S-Cams just need a good greasing or is it one of the diaphrams under the trailer sticking.
I don't really understand what goes on when you supply air to the brakes that would not let them release all the way other than those aluminum valves and maybe sticky gummed up S-Cam bushings.
It is a drop deck and it is low and hard to get under so i probably have not greased it like it should be. It worked fine last Fall.
I will work on it Saturday.
Any help would help allot
Thanks Mike

I'm not "mechanicly inclined"..but I'm thinking you have the right idea. Get the lube points serviced...and check for bad diaphrams. Maybe check the valves at the tanks as well...can't remember what them suckers are called...but they are small plastic blocks, which the airlines go into...and I know they can be a problem on trailers that have sat during a season.

I always like to check the simple things first. You may also want to check the brake chamber. I had one that had similar symptoms and it was the brake chamber.

I got it fixxed. It was simple.
Where the pin goes through the clevis and slack adjuster was froze up on 3 wheels. So when you would apply the brakes being the clevis with the brake chamber shaft could not pivot the shaft would get bound up on the side of the brake chamber opening and not come bake after the brakes were released.
A little heat, a small hammer and about 1/2 can of Break Away.
Spraying those is going on my list of things to do when I do a PM.
Thanks for the replys
