Knight out of Fontana, CA

Looking for info on Knight out of Fontana. In reading past threads, the info seems to vary greatly. (naturally, I guess)

As I understand, the particular terminal makes a difference. I realize MTs will be hard to find.

Is anyone happy there?

Do dispatchers leave you alone? As in, not hassling you too much.

How long is the average run?

Is it possible to take home-time in different parts of the country?

Is it possible to get a decent dispatcher?

Can anyone recommend a dispatcher?

Thanks for any info.

Looking for info on Knight out of Fontana. In reading past threads, the info seems to vary greatly. (naturally, I guess) knight is mostly run out of the phoenix terminal. their safety nazi is also big on the no u-turn policy, and will fire anybody caught doing one in a public road, regardless of the reason. he's also full of crap. he says a lot of bullcrap and doesn't follow up on it. oh yeah, he'll also tell you to drive with two flat tires while loaded.

As I understand, the particular terminal makes a difference. I realize MTs will be hard to find. kevin knight will do ANYTHING it takes to hold on to the company's fortune 200 status. kevin knight is the typical POS, money hungry mormon. there are plenty of perfectly good trailers being sold everywhere within the company. good luck finding that golden empty within the so-cal area. if you do find one, you will probably be told to go drop it somewhere, or something else in the effect that you cannot have the empty. if you don't comply, you'll sit for a very long time.

Is anyone happy there? the newbies are. it's only because they're too new to really understand why it is they're being run into the ground while the experienced drivers are sitting without loads. when they finally wake up and smell the coffee, they bolt real quick.

Do dispatchers leave you alone? As in, not hassling you too much. depends on how well you do the job. some babysit no matter what. depends on your dispatcher.

How long is the average run? 400 - 600mi

Is it possible to take home-time in different parts of the country? maybe.

Is it possible to get a decent dispatcher? depends on luck of the draw.

Can anyone recommend a dispatcher? i'm recommending that you don't come to this company. it's run like a giant frat/sorority house. i know for a fact that knight is undercutting swift on many accounts as well as jb hunt, heartland, and schneider. you're better off finding a better company to drive for.

dle 02-01-2010 01:52 PM

Ok, so who would you recommend?

I take it that the young lad is not having fun at Knight!

hell no i'm not! only here until i find something that is truly worth it. i don't care if i have to move up to canada for it, either. i'd be willing to move up there! hell, i'll even deal with the french-canadian people if i must!

dle: i would recommend the OP check into companies that aren't mormon owned and ones that haul the specialized commodities. there isn't really any money to be had hauling the dry crap, refrigerated junk, and most of the regular flat bed nonsense.

Syncro: Thanks for the info. Appreciate the honesty. My gut feeling was that it was a pretty bad place to be a driver.

The relatively nice volvos seem to make one think ...maybe it's not so bad. No matter where I'm at, I seem to always see Knights bobtailed. I'll keep away. Thanks again.

no problem, heretolearn! glad i saved you from making a terrible mistake! the relatively nice equipment is basically a facade that helps hide the clown running the whole show. many of them are actually pretty close to being rolling pieces of crap. they will not fix it if it costs more than $300, even at a knight terminal where their "mechanics" are being paid wages that only immigrants would be thrilled about.

many of those bobtails you see driving around are drivers who are most likely searching for that empty trailer. another crappy thing here at "your hometown national carrier" is that they have cut down the speed even more on most of the trucks. the one i'm currently in does 61 on the pedal and 59 on cruise control. it's pure HELL driving in most of the states with exception to oregon, california, and maybe washington. i'm nothing but a mobile target, and the drivers of passenger vehicles really love clinging to me much more than before. i solve that by taking an exit or steering them into pot holes and/or road obstructions. a few weeks ago, i steered a driver of an over-modified rice rocket into a tractor-trailer tire that was in the middle of the far right lane. i laughed my ass off as i saw his crappy front spoiler tear off, and a headlight came out. he immediately took the next exit.

one last thing before i go. this company has also gone electronic. the days of cheating on paper are now over.

Hawkjr 02-02-2010 12:08 PM

good stuff syncro!!

jonp 02-02-2010 12:42 PM

I've talked to several drivers out of Charlotte, NC. They are all happy more or less. I guess it is true that the terminal you work out of makes all of the difference. Thats true for every company as each has its own people and personality.

Not finding an empty in LaLa Land is the same for every company out there as is the freight especially in the winter. Its like finding something in South Florida.

I would hesitate to base my employment future with a company on the recommendation of one obviously disgruntled employee.

You first have to pass the spelling test. Can you spell Canada?

(ummm C., eh?... N., eh?... D., eh? ) :D

you must be real proud of yourself for working for peanuts. how's that $.30cpm treating you? are you working on your español? if not, get at it, because they [mexican truckers] ARE coming once the csa 2010 takes full effect!

if i told people how i truly felt about the world, life, and everything else, i think the cops would be called on me. i wrote a paper during high school about my feelings. a few days later, i found myself sitting in my counselor's office along with the vice principle, and a campus cop. they were all asking me questions if i had feelings of harming my schoolmates. i didn't. that's back when columbine was still fresh in people's memory.

ever read phillip anselmo's stuff on his views back when pantera was still kicking ass and taking names all over the world? there's some rare interviews of him expressing his views, too, and it's pretty gnarly stuff.

I don't make .30cpm. I don't speak spanish or drive for Knight either. Your obviously pretty angry. Why don't you take a vacation before you hurt someone.

Ronin 02-03-2010 03:19 PM

The way things are sounding I'm sure he would, if he could.

oh, was the $.30cpm estimate a bit too high? my bad...how's that 20-something cents per mile treating you? man, you may as well change your name to jorge, jesus, juan, miguel, pablo, nestor, and change your cb handle to "dirty sanchez." it'll suit you well.

wow...I make a tad more than that. must suck to wake up everyday as an angry rascist.

if you're going to call me a racist, learn how to spell it. by the way, i'm not a racist. i'm an equal opportunity hater. truth is, the mexican truckers are coming, and i guess you'll be the last to figure it out. i suppose you're one of those "will work for food" types out there. man, it must be awesome to work for peanuts, and to never ever break $600 a week after taxes.

oh yeah, if i really wanted to hurt somebody, or a group of people, i would have done it long, long ago. just because i'm bitter, it doesn't mean that i am a threat to the public.

jonp 02-05-2010 08:15 AM

huh...if your going to be an angry racist then at least man up and say you are. My job is pretty secure and if it comes a day when it isnt for any reason I'll take another. You on the other hand with your attitude will be stuck working for David Duke. Hope that works out for you, big guy

i agree with some of david duke's principles. i won't deny it. i believe all white people, like the rest, need proper representation. what's wrong with a bit of white nationalism? oh yeah, it's not politically correct. each time a european white person says something that's outside of his or her ethnicity, it's automatically a racist comment. get your double standard head out your ass.

i also find it humorous that you feel the need to comment wherever i post. what is this? you have some kind of love-hate butt love for me? i don't swing that way.

scythe08 02-05-2010 05:29 PM

With all due respect to both parties, can you both take this to PMs please?

jonp 02-06-2010 01:16 AM

Hey, calm down. Sync and I can go back and forth like this without coming to blows. Its called a forum for a reason, differing opinions and the ability to call someone on what they say if we take umbrage with it is what a forum and the freedom of speech is all about.

The reason I keep responding to you is that you are replying to me with something new so I throw something at you.

David Duke was the only guy I could think of off the top of my head. Maybe I should have said
Robert Byrd (D-WV). I happen to agree with you on this one. If we can have openly racist black groups running around shouting about black power then we should be able to have white groups doing the same thing. I may not agree with what they are saying but it works both ways. That's what the freedom of association clause means in my book. All are equal or none are. Some can not be more equal than others which seems to be where we are in this country right now.

bentstrider 02-06-2010 09:05 AM

As for the OP, I would suggest trying it out anyway.
Unless you're the type that blatantly disregards rules and such, the "Draconian" situation at Knight described by Meatwad will probably be just about as routine as brushing teeth and shaving everyday.

Better to be with a safe and large company that appears to be doing everything to keep you out of trouble than some, "fly-by-night" small-fry that would care less about log/weight fines and then scream at you for the load being late due to road hazards.

As far as the whole David Duke/White Nationalism thing goes, I'm a dark-skinned Malaysian that could care less so long as they STAY OFF MY LAWN.

Really, Hey, you calm down! Do you even have any idea what this thread was about? Yes THIS thread! I'm well aware of what a forum is and I could care less about your smart ***** attitude! This thread was about Knight. If you want to debate something else, make your own thread and quit Hijacking this one.

Yo poozer. I do know what this thread is about and if you go back you will see that I commented on it and if the moderators think I am hijacking it they can delete my posts and ask me to stop.

Nah, more like Ron Paul. Anywho, I'm giving Knight another try myself once November comes along. I don't ask for much and they seem large enough to have their stuff together. Last company I drove with was run by a supposed Scientologist from OC. At least in accordance with the "Volunteer Minister" ad/em
blem on the side of the box.

I think TF did ask you to stop in a very nice way. Maybe you GUYS ( plural ) didn't get the hint. So stop the pissing match and try to keep your commits on topic.
