Out of country jobs?

Hi,

I was informed by a friend of mine that they are hiring for jobs in Kuwait and paying pretty handsomely. I'm wondering if anyone on here has looked into that? I know that it's not the most glamorous job but it's something I'm willing to look into. I have owned my own truck and didn't do so well and going back to work for a company has not been an easy thing to do. (for the amount they pay and what your used to)

Thank you
John

I have thought about it a few times, but never went into it. Have a brother-in-law that did look into it, but didn't go. I know what you mean about the pay they give you. Sometimes, I think I should have held onto my own truck.

My husband got rid of his truck about 3 years ago. He's been working for a company that is not very kind on the pay scale. It's hard for him to remain there but the trucking owner operator world wasn't easy financially at all. So he's really thinking of doing this. Everything provided for you. Granted, being in Kuwait can't be a blast but you can fix up alot of what went wrong when we did own the truck. I don't know, it's a long commitment. Just wondering if anyone else has looked into it or has done it.

Thanks

I looked into 3-4 yrs. ago, so lets see what I can remember. You cannot owe uncle sam any taxes or have any illnesses like diabetes or something that really needs to be controlled to be normal. No felonies or current court situtations, pass a serious physical, it is a one year deployment, and if you bail out early then that's it they will fly you home and not rehire you. I think I remember the pay being 100,000 a year. You sleep in a baracks situtation, get paid once a month and drive in a convoy, if you make it to iraq the trucks have some armor plating, but check this out you are allowed no weapons(sweet dreams if I was there), and most convoys are escorted. That is all I can remember, and I think I got it right. I was close to going but my diabetes stopped me, I could have faked and passed the blood sugar test but I decided it was'nt worth it. I had to search for awhile around the haliburton website to find the right job in trucking but you'll find it. There will probably be several openings so apply to several I was turned down on two but picked up on the third one. I guess that's the first test to see if you are serious.

Well your first sentence killed it for me. We owe back taxes so I guess that's out. It's hard not to owe taxes when you were/are an owner operator. Oh well. I'll keep my eye on the haliburton site, I asked my wife to look into that as well.

Thanks for all the input

your back taxes won't be a problem if you talk to the irs , get a lawer and do the paper work stating how much you will pay each month until the bill is payed, i have a friend who is in iraq and paying back taxes now,,,,,,,,,,also your background has to be 7 years or more,,,,,,

Well maybe that will be ok then because we did a Ch. 13 because it was too much that we could handle going from the wage of an owner operater to a very cheap paying company...hee hee. They just recently took 9% of a small wage already and a 4 day work week which I know alot of companies are doing but the work is definitely there. Oh well, that's more than you need to know. I just need to get back on my feet and this seemed like a good way to do it. The guy that I talked to and friends that he knows all seem to really not mind it.

Thanks for the input

Haliburton

I went to the Haliburton website to search jobs and never could find any pop up. I assumed they must not be hiring. I guess I will try and find a number to call the company. I was laid off work driving and now pick up used furniture for a hospice facility. I make about 300.00 a week. If haliburton would hire me I would go in a second.

Well it's good to know that I'm not the only one eager to go. I would send a resume over anyway, I'm going to and I was told by that friend of mine to search Transportation and Logistics in Kuwait and the jobs will come up, I'm wondering why the demand is so high?

John
