Let's put it this way! His failing (or not be passed) the Schnieder physical was more than likely a Blessing in disguise!

One thing I learned about this profession, when one door closes, another will open, so just keep pushing on.

Re: Schneider has lost their mind!!

my husband & I were going for team drivers. when I did my first bag lift, I did it wrong and the instructor then showed me how to pick it up, I was using my back too much, so I did it again but he didn't like my posture and told me that if was going to fail if I did the 3rd one wrong. So the other instructor that was working with my husband came over and showed me exactly how to lift and I did it right this time but my heart rate is up there because I just lifted 90 lbs, then on the the 30 and the 60 lb lift and walk, then on to the 3x 30lbs lift and 3x 60lbs lift, well after climbing and crawling and lifting the 30lbs 3x my heart rate was over the maximum and he failed me...my husband passe but he declined employment because it was all about us working as a team. As I am being escorted out, there was a guy standing there and instructor asked him what he was doing and he said "I am waiting for my heart rate to go down before continuing" WHAT!.. I would have loved to have that luxury....my instructor had very low people skills and I was his last for the day...I think that if Schneider wants drivers to pass this physical than they should give out back braces or support belts, that would have kept me with a straight back. I agree, you must do cardio before your orientation with Schneider. A young man just out of the marines, did not pass either.........what a waste of time and money for me and Schneider.

I realize that insurance companies and liability lawyers write policy but this just has me floored. This industry has so many people in it that can barely get in and out of a truck cab but a guy like this can't even get a start.

This is the kind of guy we want in this industry, healthy, intelligent (has a Masters), very stable with no baggage whatsoever.

Bottom line, if you're going for Schneider you better do some cardio for a while first.

I disagree with you. It is not that simple. I (female) did the first 30 lbs and had to do it 3 times. I was not doing it the right way with my back, so I did it again, still did it wrong according to the guy, I was told I would fail it I did it wrong again, do you think my heart rate was raising? so now I have just done the very first test 3 x and 90 lbs later, I am rushed over to do 60lbs, 20 ft and 30 lbs 20 ft and I have just done 60 lbs more that the other guy and I was told I would fail if I didn't do it right, my heart rate is racing now.....I have to step up and down and crawl under the platform 3 x.....then go and lift and squat 30 lbs 3 x more, then do 60 lbs lift and squat 3x, then go and pull 100 lbs and push 100 lbs ....do you think my heart rate is up with no let up in between.....for me I failed, my rate was 4 points over the maximum.....yet they let some guy wait for his heart rate to go down, he was waiting while I was testing and still waiting after I was excorted out. It no joke after you have prepared your life to get set up to go on the road, you mail, your dog, your bills, everything prepared in advance and to fail by 4 points......no joke! No one told me or my husband who passed that this was about cardio, we thought all we had to do was lift this weight and we would be ok....well it not all about lifting weight....it is about cardio and it is a company policy not a DOT requirement.

If you really want to work there, you might mention to someone that you were curious why the males and females were treated somewhat differently. That if you had been treated with kid gloves and allowed to lower your heart rate like the male, maybe you'd still be there.

Play upon their paranoiac fears of you raising the issue of sexual discrimination, and you might get another shot.

funny thing; last night eating dinner at the counter - T/A Ontario, Ca- a Schneider driver was talking about how the CEO of the company wanted to change their company policy to include a BMI( body mass index) qualification- This guy argued that with that kind of standard 90% of all drivers would be disqualified.
With the COST of providing health care group coverage to all it's employee's they will soon be looking for only newbie drivers-- because these are the only ones that will pass. Anyone who has two or three years of driving a truck has probably gained weight. And non of these other companies have done much to keep their drivers "in shape" Schneider is the only one I know of that has fitness rooms in the terminals.

USX physical isnt so bad. They have it early in the AM as they warn you not to smoke or drink coffee and/or sodas until after the physical. You get a rgular check up by a doctor, they take your BP and then you have to carry a 50 LBS crate at waist height for about 30 feet, then put it on a shelve on waist height. Tehn you have to pick up the crate again, put it on the floor, pick it up and lift it over your head on top shelve and then bck to middle shelve. Then you get a step test, which is a step ladder, you skip the bottom step and have to step off the floor immediately onto the 2nd step, which is supposed to show you can get onto the DOT-bumper. And that's it.

I think the Wilmer terminal has an exercise room.
