Here is the update:
Monday morning when I took my husband to the yard it was very very slow going because of the slide offs on the freeway. On my way back I ended up being an hour late for work as there was a Fed-Ex truck that had jack knifed and was in the center of the medium. He was not hurt nor did it look like there was damage to the truck. The snow was a very wet snow and it was not taken care of right away so the roads were very bad. They are fine now! The kids had a snow day Monday and got to stay home. After coming home Monday evening I had the kids stay home on Tuesday. I took my son's car to work because my mini van was getting the right front CV axle put in  I left my son's lights on Monday morning actually and had to have a jump after work. My husband got a load going to the Seattle area on Monday. He had to go through then he was routed on a trip through Whites Pass he was not thrilled with the pass and the weather was not good. He had a six stop drop from where he picked up in Seattle ending in Dalton Gardens. He finished his drops for that trip on Thursday then picked up in Post Falls. This load was going to Kent Washington. Snoqualmi was closed because of avalanche threat. They routed my husband through Steven's pass and it was closed until 6:00 pm on Thursday. He said he would not drive it at night and that the load would not be there at 7:00 in the morning. He felt as if he new DM cared more about the getting the load there in the morning than drivers safety. He was upset and I could fully understand why. The pass was closed as they had to clear a couple of big rigs off from an accident. His DM told him to do the best he could. Of course safety comes first. I told him next time his DM tells him we still have customers he should remind him that they want their load there safe and would not want the drivers taking risk that could damage or lose the load. Thursday morning was also a snow day for the kids and Wednesday night we got a lot of snow. In the morning when I got up I could not even see my license plate and half of my mini van door was blocked in by the snow. I knew in order to get out I would have to shovel quite a bit so I called in and asked if I could work Saturday instead. The director of HR said it would be no problem. I knew that we were getting close to finishing the work and later that day I got a call from the temp agency stating that job was completed and no one would be going back on Friday. Friday my husband dropped his load in Kent around 3:00 p.m. as the pass was again closed in the morning. He was routed approximately a hundred miles away to pick up a load. He fought rush hour traffic to get there on time that evening to pick up his load but it was not ready. He was not happy. He picked up his load Saturday morning and headed up through the I-84 I believe through the Tri-Cities. He will drop this load in Spokane on Monday he has two stops with this load. Due to the weather this week was not fun for him or us. Well the kids enjoyed it. We had a lot of shoveling and I think that my all wheel drive is going out on my mini-van so I have been unable to make it up my drive way and I even broke one chain. Today my husband and son are shoveling Nana's roof off as she is in a mobile home on five acres next to us. We are concerned about the weight of the snow on her roof. Then my husband and son will be going to my mom's house to watch the super bowl. Last night my husband and son went to see a movie after my husband got home. Winters would be much easier if we had all the right equipment and it worked right. I will attempt to update more frequently this week. The weather was crazy here and through out the week we were having power blurps as the snow on the lines was quite heavy. Goin Fer It's Wife |
well today I floated in my swimming pool, drank a few bud lights, spent time with the wife and kids and am very happy that I do not have to drive over the road local is so much more enjoyable. Oh yea I also was very happy that yesterday I signed my union card with the teamsters and am looking forward to becoming a teamster in the very near future.. I am over the days of dealing with snow in Colorado, you can have it... I will stick with my 85 Degree pool in the backyard, no neighbors and plenty of privacy in the semi beautiful state of Florida... And visit Colorado at various times during the year.

I wouldn't be so hoity toity about being a teamster in Florida. It is still a Right to Work state. Your dues go to support some mighty high living for the Union Bosses. The contracts have a lot of variability. Unless you are with UPS or the like, then you probably are making a meager hourly rate.

Well I wrote a complete dissertation and then decided on an edit, as MBA it really does not matter what you think, My post was simply put out there to state how glad I am in not having to deal with the daily drudge of snow anymore and how nice it is to float in a pool in February.
For the record I work for UPS Frieght and I have a great pay package along with a benefit package as well, the union will only increase the value of it. even in a right to work state as Florida the union provides protection from an at will firing... employers have to find reasonable cause before you get fired.... timberwolf |

I hope your Wolf doesn't rip a hole in your Rubber Ducky pool. That would ruin a true Old Milwaukee moment.
(Nobody who makes pâté this good can be all bad. That depends on what the pâté is made of. Woof. Bennie? A good dog to the last bite.) I didn't think it was appropriate for you to be bragging to goinferit. They seem like a hard working couple, raising their children, and fighting to make ends meet. You come on here all high-falutin talking swimming pools (no movie stars?) and sunshine while they are stuck in a blizzard. Remember: You can do what you want, but not as long as you want. It's easy to take a licking on someone else's butt. 30-years ago the USW had an eerily similar condescending attitude. They had it so good they became Reagan Democrats. Unions raise wages by restricting supply (labor). The downside is that as wages rise, demand falls. Here's a tidbit on how unions restrict supply: "The long and short of trade union rights is in fact the right to proceed against the strikebreaker with primitive violence."

Nah, she wont rip a hole in it it is made of pure Florida Gunite in fact she really enjoys swimming in it with the kids. (Nobody who makes pâté this good can be all bad. That depends on what the pâté is made of. Woof. Bennie? A good dog to the last bite.) Well it may amaze you MBA, but I too can make Pate, Can you? A real pate is forced fed Goose liver it is quite interesting as some of the pita members call it inhumane to force feed a goose just to fatten up the liver and kill it for consumption. I was an Executive Chef in my first 23 years of adult life, then figured out I could drive local and make more money, with no weekends, no holidays, and no nights. You come on here all high-falutin talking swimming pools (no movie stars?) and sunshine while they are stuck in a blizzard. It is what it is I was not bragging, in fact I was kind of sympathetic to her situation, we all have choices in where we would like to live, As a chef in Colorado I was making close to $75,000 a year, that lasted all of one year until the time I was away from my family led to divorce (80 hours a week) then my ex moved to Florida with my youngest daughter, not my choice to live here at the time but I had to be a part of my daughters life PERIOD.... so I quit that high paying job and moved to Central Florida and took a job paying a whopping $10 an hour, slowly I established myself as a chef in this town and found a job paying me $28,000 a year, now that is big time.... hint hint, sarcasm. I married the mother of my oldest daughter and together we bought a home when prices were dirt cheap. After a few years of the culinary dream and many many hours of work at all times of the day, I went to the local vo tech to learn to drive so I could take a local driving job that would have me home every night, every weekend and on the holidays, This job paid me close to 32 grand a year and I drove a 60mph truck now talk about paying dues, after 3 years I was hired on by UPS frieght. My youngest daughter was 7 years old the FIRST TIME I watched her open up Christmas gifts on Christmas morning. I have the same problems goin for it has in fact I just spent $1000 to get my clutch replaced in my 67 fastback it went out three weeks ago. My home air conditioner will most likely need replacing in the very near future at a cost of $5000, and of course the insurance rates in Florida are at an all time high, so they say. I pay $850 a year for my home. In Denver I paid roughly $700 a year. My point here is that I took a bad situation and made it a good and I am damn proud of what my wife and I built in the past 10 years. Goin fer it can do the same thing in Idaho, in fact if truth be told I think during the summer months Idaho has a great deal more to offer then Florida has in the way of natural beauty, so does Colorado, but during the winter months it is only a place to visit for skiing just my opinion. As far as the rest of your statements, this is America and yes I can do what I want with in reason, I feel my post was in reason The only butt I lick is that of my wife. 30 years ago this Country was a different place, Violence is a daily part of our lives what one person chooses to do on a picket line may not be the same choice another makes. At one point I was skeptical of the Teamsters and the Union experience in general, however spend a few days in my barn with bosses that have as many mood changes as a pregnant woman then you may see it differently I am also liking the fact that part of the contract states our Insurance packet will stay the same price for the life of the contract if you have kids that is a huge advantage, $150 a month for full coverage until July of 2013 sounds pretty strong to me, plus guaranteed pay raises that will have me close to $25 an hour, and of course protection from an at will firing and a company paid pension that will have me anywhere from $2500 to $4500 a month by the time I reach 68 years. MBADriver to me it is a no brainer, life is difficult and we all have to make the best of it, I was in the right place at the right time with the right attitude. It Is What It Is..... Timberwolf |

Congratulations on your culinary expertise!! The pate thing was a line from The War of the Roses. For some reason it popped out of my head when reading your post. Not sure why. But there are a lot of things rattling around my noggin. Good luck and no hard feelings. I did state UNLESS you are working for UPS, then .... Your with UPS, you got it dicked. |
Goin' Fer It & Wife and all other loyal readers....
I started reading your threads the other night after doing a google search for May Trucking, because my husband just started at May. Anyway, I was so intrigued, I couldn't stop reading. LOL I'm sorry about all your husbands trials and tribulations with his new career path. I hope things start looking better for you guys and your family. Life is a highway, there are potholes in everywhere, but look ahead to the freshly paved. After only 1 week with an awesome trainer, my husbands first solo week out, he had to throw chains at Siskiyou Summit, dealt with some other crabby May drivers that think they know it all, and tonight he witnessed a carjacking, at Ernie's in Moses Lake of all places. Nothing else major though. He, just like Iceman, was ready to call it quits the other night in Brooks after dealing with the night/weekend dispatch and the 3 other rude May drivers. After talking to me, his trainer and eventually his DM, he calmed down. Anyway, I haven't gotten to read the Davis thread yet, but I will. I just wanted to give you might warm wishes, so I had to track you down on the new thread. This is definitely a thread I am going to be reading daily!! Hugggsss CBG |
