I don't think you'll ever find a job with the actual USPS hauling mail with a tractor trailer because they contract it all out. At least they used to and I highly doubt they've changed things. I used to haul mail years ago on a straight truck from the Cincinnati Annex (which is the official name for a USPS terminal serbie, just fyi) to outlying post offices. For Annex to Annex service they used tractor trailers, but those were bid routes for contractors also. When I ran it, the contractor that I worked for had every route from Toledo to Louisville, but it has been broken up quite a bit since then. Now, there are many different contractors that haul it around this area.
All mail routes have to pay a prevailing wage to the driver, it's part of the bid contract, and I'm sure this applies to combination drivers also. I ran Annex-PO for a year at $13.92 per hour and had just recieved a raise that put me over 14 bucks when I left there, but this was 18-19 years ago and that was the rate for a straight truck, combination was higher. I'm not absolutely certain on the exact wage, but I just saw an ad from a contractor in the paper a few weeks ago hiring for a run from Cincy to somewhere in PA and I believe it was $22.?? per hour. It also required 2 years experience.
MCA is the name of one contractor around here, but there is one huge one here and their name escapes me. Their not hard to find, they are required to have "U.S. Mail" plastered on the truck and trailer, but if you look closely on the tractor you'll find the contractor name. Look for the trucks in your area and call em up.
