I say give us all business card and let us be ambassadors. Maybe even give us a perk for a referral. Houston, TX = 4 San Antonio, TX = 7 Dallas, TX = 9 Austin, TX = 16 Ft. Worth, TX = 19 El Paso, TX = 21 No freight, give me a break! hhmmm.....what are the numbers for? Actually, the problem in Texas is that many drivers run here during the winter and then spread out again as the weather gets better. Most drivers don't like driving in the ice/snow (myself included). The shippers and brokers take advantage of the fact that there are more drivers here then usually and lower the rates because there are more drivers then freight. TMC doesn't like cheap freight. Since the housing market is down there is a shortage of loads for sheetrock and shingles and that is primarily what I haul. |

When the ice storm hit Texas a couple of weeks ago I took a load to Douglas, GA. I alomost took another load there for monday but I wanted to be home this weekend. Other Texas Dedicated drives have been taking out of state loads instead of sitting around or going w/o a load. I have even heard of a number of drivers not getting loads on friday and dh'ing to the house. We are finally now diversifying what we haul in Texas and we are taking more oddball loads. I've gone from only hauling sheetrock, shingles, and drill pipe to including lumber, Lowes, copper, steel and uuggghh coils.
Lately I've been running more like a linehaul driver then a Texas Dedicated driver. If the housing market keeps going down hill they may turn Texas Dedicated into Texas Centric Regional which wouldn't bother me one bit.....as long as they still get me home every weekend. TMC require Hazmat endorsement?
Hi,
I'm set to graduate trucking school in late May and seriously considering applying to TMC. Do they require Hazmat endorsement? Also, opinions on getting Hazmat or not for a newbie. My school sends alot of their graduates to Werner, but I would like to run flat-bed's. I'm single, 24, 25 in April, and ready to run OTR 48 state long haul. Home time is not important at this point in my life, not having a wife and kids. Thanks |

Can't believe San Antonio is 7. Last November I sat at the SA Petro for two days waiting on a load. I called my dispatcher and he said "you're never going to SA again! The freight sucks!".

well since i have stayed out of tx for most of the last month, i have got my average nearly back to what it was last summer. i have been running across country and doing pretty well. i dont care for snow and ice but the roads havent been that bad. the snow storm last week in mo was probably the worst. it took 7 hours to get from stl to joplin and i was ready from my break when i got to the pilot. i took a load from rotan to ca that paid 1900 and loaded coming back for 1700. i guess who your fm is also helps in the loading.

Woe is me.
Picked up a load at the Westfield, MA Lowe's distribution center on Friday for delivery @ 0700 sharp on Monday to an Oswego, NY store. Sunday PM, checked weather in NY and there was a lake effect mess in Oswego. 90 & 81 closed north of Syracuse. Didn't bother leaving on Sunday. Left on Monday afternoon to camp out close to Oswego so we could call consignee on Tuesday to see what weather was like and deliver. Called the consignee; squalls, snow emergency, all roads in closed, parking lot filled with abandoned cars, 40 " of snow. Wierd thing is that we are in Syracuse at the Pilot and it is sunny. Lake effect snow sucks. |
