UPSF is accepting apps for future positions at all Service Centers. We don't know why as we have people on layoff but the general opinion is they want a pool of apps ready in case Yellow goes under.
I was going through our Kingman Arizona yard on Thursday and one of the mechanics asked me if it was true about Yellow closing up shop. That was the first I had heard of it.
Union is doing give backs at yrc. Not going to be easy for them. Not enough freight for everyone, and UPS and Fedex have the cash to hang on longer and starve them out.
You really have to wonder about Yellow and their thinking.
Yellow was a firm, based on the same operating principles as Consolidated Freight.
Lot's of old drivers that have been with them for years and years. Lot's of old equipment. Even their new equipment looked old when it was put on the road.
Then they go and buy up another, similarly structured company......Roadway. In the process, they sold the best part of Roadway..the parcel service that was competing with UPS Ground, to FEDEX.
After that...without assimilating Roadway into Yellow...they run off and buy up portions of TNT and all of USF...which was made up of portions of TNT.
Just exactly how much thought processes did those guys use??
I feel bad for what may happen to the pensioners and the long time drivers that have everything invested with Yellow....but man....What were those managers thinking??
no thanks, i am still seriously looking into getting on with the state police/troopers in any state that'll be hiring once i get through police academy.
