Anyone from Jacksonville?

USA v Scotland preview | Sky Sports

Get yourself along to cheer on Scotland

"O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again"

Was it the Scots or Irish that could hoodwinked out of a World Cup berth by the Henry handball?

Ireland. Scotland were thrown in against the Netherlands and Norway so we had little chance of qualification

US vs Scotland, I think you have a chance, we're not exactly Italy or Germany but we're getting better as the friendly against Italy showed.

Ha ha ha..Thanks. We're not exactly footballing giants either.

Maybe I'm crazy but I thought I saw a few top players in the EPL this past season were Scots. Personally I think the EPL is the best of the best, I really feel it's better top to bottom than like La Liga. UEFA seems to agree with my view too. I would think the entire Scottish team would be playing for clubs in the EPL but some seem to stay in the SPL which is good in it's own way.

There are quite a few Scottish players in the premier league(quite a few Americans too).
The EPL is THE place for stars of soccer to earn money, so that's how it has the greatest depth in quality
Won't be long before the Chinese league overtakes that position though

Mr. Ford95 05-26-2012 11:30 PM

Egh, I can nearly count the number of our starting international team players in the EPL on 1 hand. Our Captain wasn't allowed to re-join Everton this year on loan, Donovan that is. I see we have 4 goalie's over there but really only 2 have seen international team action and a midfielder in Dempsey who has been a heck of a player for Fulham.

I've heard that about China, apparently their basketball league has taken off with the arrival of so many NBA players in the last few years, particularly in the Summer/Fall when it looked like the NBA season was not going to happen this year due to the player strike. They have gotten pretty good rather quickly. I would not be surprised if you see more of the top footballer's heading over there since some of those teams can match some of the enormous contracts European teams are putting out. The only question is, are those players willing to play by China rules? A few of the NBA guys found out real quick that the China rules aren't fun to deal with.

China rules may be an impediment but China big bucks are surely enough of a lure

5-1 to the USA :-(

Ouch..........sorry missed it here, was watching the Indy 500. Don't know if it was even on TV or not.

Mr. Ford95 05-27-2012 08:53 PM

Ah no wonder, it was played last night......still don't think it was on TV unless it was one of ESPN's oddball channels or Fox Soccer Net.

Not on tv over here either. Maybe some clips on youtube? Worth trying

ESPN said that Donovan lit them up with a hat trick. Everton has to be beyond disappointed that they could not get him back on loan this year. He's got a heck of a shot that has some serious spice on it at times but he is also very creative with the cheeky shots that magically find their way into the net.

He's a really good player; wouldn't mind seeing him sign for my team, Newcastle United

Mr. Ford95 05-28-2012 03:11 PM

I have a soft spot for the Toon team. Kinda the same thing with Tottenham. I think Tottenham is because or Redknapp, he reminds me of Droopy Dog with his face. Toon though is because they are so far to the North they might as well play in the SPL. They are just kind of out there all by their self with Sunderland. I wouldn't mind seeing him pair up with Rooney and Chicharito for my boys, Man U. God I want to get over there so bad and take in a game at Old Trafford. I wish Highbury was still there, that was a neat little place.

That's how a Geordie can live quite happily in Scotland and refer to themselves as being more Scots than English without being ridiculed or having their throats cut :-)
Actually, Newcastle was part of Scotland at one time.
