I support legalizing it as well. It is proven in other countries legalization actually causes a major drop in use, and all but eradicates drug related crime.
Obviously drug testing would change a little bit, it would no longer be included in a standard drug test, but would still be required to be tested in safety sensitive functions. Would be like Alcohol, you couldn't use it so many hours before going on duty, etc. Only problem with enforcement is how long THC metabolites stay in your system, they would have to use saliva tests because of the much shorter testable duration time.
It is coming though believe me. However a complete legalization is a long way off, but it won't be long before a national medical legalization plan comes along and gets approved.
It is true that there is a lot of propaganda about weed. The only long term negative effects are the same as smoking cigarettes, for the same reasons, and even then weed has less chemicals then a normal cigarette. I too smoked quite a bit of the stuff in my youth, and I was able to perfectly function at anything I did. Now I do not support driving and smoking, even though personally I think I could handle it just fine, and did so many times in a car, your response times are diminished, so the likelihood of an accident is greater.
Now there are those out there that will spew out the drugs are bad for you, will destroy your brain, etc etc, most of which is all just propaganda that has no basis in truth. However there is always the risk of social issues, but that can be with anything. Yes even with weed it is possible to become enough of an addict to it that you will destroy your life and relationships, but that is a rare thing from just smoking weed.
If I where in a different career, and it where legal, believe me I would be smoking doobies instead of cigarettes
