So I've never done it before but I've always wanted to try. I've got a lot of places I want to see, but no car or ton of cash with which to do so. In the same way that I've really gotten into couchsurfing (dot com) as a way to give shelter that I have to travelers who don't, I wonder if there's a way to organize a larger rideshare board bigger than the typical craigslist/local type by working with professional folks like yourselves.
I've had friends get dropped off at a truckstop outside of town to ask until they catch a ride in the right direction, and plenty of stories to tell. Surely you've got your own? Educate me. I want to know about your personal feelings/criticisms of hitchhiking and those that do so that you've met, as well as the larger picture. What are company policies about picking up riders? What is the trucker culture perception of the act? What do you gain/lose from it and what do you expect in return?
Thanks!
