Speed Limiters
The proposal to mandate speed limiters on trucks has been approved by the White House and is expected to be published soon.

This is just more ways to screw the driver, and make our job more unsafe.
The goal of the government is to monopolize the industry. This has nothing to do with safety. |
Ltitle more info, it would permanently set the top speed at 65mph for Class 7 and 8 vehicles. The reasoning is a bit flawed, speed is the biggest factor in large truck crashes with a fatality.........no duh guys! The real question is who was at fault. Trucks can be limited to 45 and still be just as deadly if the 4 wheelers are acting stupid around us.

Didn't Canada already pass this? I wonder if they have a lot more elephant races now? :)

Besides being seen as a govt overreach by limiting the speed of trucks nationwide, is it really a big deal in the overall picture? Most states don't allow trucks much more than 65 legally as is.......IMO it should be up to the states to decide since they technically own the highway within their state borders. But, we saw this before with the National Speed Limit Law up till 1987.......so the govt has precedent to legally do this.
I forsee a run on the older trucks where the ECU can't be used to set the limit! How do you set those trucks to a given limit? And coming very soon are the self driving trucks which drivers won't be able to make go any faster than the computer allows anyways........... |
They did this crap in Europe, (The New Caliphate) and now they want to do the same socialist bs here.
It's how they further control the industry, and drive small business out. It's not going to work very well for companies who ship west of the mississppi, that is for sure. |
This is the DUMBS thing that the US Government is trying to do by far, they started with the CSA, dealing with that problem, now there going to cause more accidents, if anything, they should do away with double speed limits, if they want to change the speed limits everyone should be at 65 mph.
These cars already dodge in and out of the trucks, makes me laugh. Be prepared for more accidents and higher insurance premiums. Thank you US government, maybe you should look into wages instead of these items that do not affect anyone but, big business. |
I've driven trucks limited to 65 mph. It takes too long to pass trucks limited to 62 or 63 mph, or other slow vehicles on the interstate. 68 mph would be a better speed. If all the trucks are forced to 65 mph, getting past slower vehicles will slow everyone down, since traffic will bunch up more frequently and for longer periods. The interstate could turn into a quagmire of slower 65 mph trucks taking forever to pass the slowest vehicles. Worse yet, how about the trucks going 65 passing those going 64.9. Governors are and inexact science.
