Looks like i will be adding a 2nd truck.

Kinda lol.

I will try to make a long story short.

I will be buying a Part time septic business from a buddy of mine. Just got off the phone with him and we agreed on price and he is willing to sell. We been going back and fourth for months now.

The truck is nothing to write home about but it is a start. 1989 ford f-800 10wheeler. got a 3,000gal steel tank. He has over 460 Customers. He does this part time after his day job and on Saturdays. Charges 220.00 for up to 1500 gallons. The dumping fee is .015/gal. So dumping is cheap.

I drove a septic truck for 3.5 years so this is nothing new to me. When i did it full time in 8hrs i could make anywhere from 900-1300/day on avg. and burn hardly no fuel and go less then 100miles. There is a nice size profit in this business.

Also what is nice i will be paying cash for it. So i will have no payments of any kind. I'm hone almost everyday by 3pm and i can go hit a house or 2 after working the dump truck and still be done by 6 or 7pm.

All this should go down in about a month and half. I have alot of paper work BS to do with the DEP etc. Long term i want to grow the septic and get out of dump trucking. As much as i like dump truckin the profit isn't that big. So overall i think this is a great thing for me.

Next week we meet up to go over everything and i will also ride with him for a day to meet his weekly customers and to see how the truck runs and pumps.

Once all this goes down pictures will follow. Anyway thats my story and i will keep updating it.

Graintrain 07-01-2011 11:22 PM

Sounds like an interesting business venture. Its a constant thing, its not like people can choose not to fill up the septic tank, unless they eat a lot less.

All I can say is, I hope you get "stinkin" rich doing it. It's not a job for everyone.

crb 07-01-2011 11:39 PM

My wife's grandfather pumps, installs, and fixes sceptics. He also has some portables I'm not sure how well he does but seems to ne doing good not a millionaire or anything. He has cut back installs a lot cause someday is super under cutting him. He refuse to work at a loss or for very small profit like $100 per install too big of a risk.

Good luck on the new adventure.

rank 07-02-2011 02:36 AM

That's a good deal. better than truckin' I used to have a buddy that owned a plumbing business. he'd say, "It may be ***** to you but it's mu bread and butter". Friggin rich that family was.

RostyC 07-02-2011 04:22 PM

No Pictures Please!!! I have a weak stomach.

Good luck in your venture. Sounds like you'll be taking s**t off of everyone.

Orangetxguy 07-03-2011 03:41 PM

Good luck Brandon.

Lucky for you, that the Bulldog is comfortable with anything on it"s back. You can set that dump bed off onto a rack, and slap on a vacuum tank in just a few hours.....IF you wanted to have something a little classier (and bigger) than that old Ford.

LOL....... Rosty is right....you're gonna be taking chit from everyone!!!

Maniac 07-03-2011 04:52 PM

Good luck, you will be number one in a number 2 buisness!!

You saw the same plumbing truck I did! :) Somewhere in Alabama, wasn't it?

"Such&Such Plumbing
We're number 1 in the number 2 business"

Love it.

Good luck Mackman. What class CDL will you need? Class B?

Mackman 07-03-2011 07:15 PM

You will need a class B with tanker. I talked to my insurance man about this. He said my insurance will be alot cheaper then my dump truck. Cuz i will not be a for hire carrier. It will be private use only. So that was good to hear.

Mackman 07-06-2011 09:33 PM

Got some questions for ya.

I will be making an LLC since i will have the septic truck. Now to get my MC,DOT and PA PUC numbers in the LLC names do i have to re apply again?? Or can i just do a name change??

Also my dump trucks Registration is in my name. and the title is in my name (bank will have that for anthor 4 years) Can i change the registration on the dump truck to the companys LLC name with the title being in my own name?? Thanks again.

Maniac 07-07-2011 07:29 PM

Don't know about the Pa rules, there are only a few states that use PUC numbers, Pa and Texas are the only 2 I can remember.

In Jersey where I base plate you need to re-register the truck to change the name, because they think of it as a new owner, as far as the DOT/ MC numbers, YES, you can change them, and you can do it online, I changed mine when I dropped the Inc.

You dont happen to have a link do you?? I cant find anywhere online that would let me change it.

Musicman 07-10-2011 05:10 AM

The best thing about the septic business is all the cool puns you can put on your truck. I saw one last week that read "Turd Busters" above a picture of a "log" with the bar / circle emblem over it. Drilling is almost as good though. I used to do environmental water well drilling and we had shirts that read "Your Hole is Our Goal!" That reminds me, I have a pic of the back of a truck I was behind on I-80 in PA that read "Master Baiters!" in big letters on the back.... that was absolutely AWSOME!

LBF 07-11-2011 12:31 AM

"Satisfaction guaranteed, or double your sweetie back!"

Best of luck, always great to hear a hopeful story in bleak times!

Mackman 07-16-2011 03:23 PM

Well this is the logo i picked. Think its nice clean and simple looking. I had 96 to pick from. It was hard. Put overall i liked this one. Now next week i need to get cards, letterheads and #10 envelopes made up. Since im going to be doing all the mailing. I want to look as clean and professional as i can.

Very sweet logo Brandon! It's going to make you look very professional!

Are you going to go whole hog and put the same logo on the dump truck......only with "Dump Truck Services" or whatever under the Martin??

Mackman 07-16-2011 03:39 PM

Yes i am. The company color is going to be white. So i need to paint my dump truck. Got a price of 5,300 to paint the cab and sandblast and paint the body in white. I wont be doing that anytime soon. But i want to change everything over to white. I will be painting the pump truck my self. Since i wont be clear coating it. But nice stuff like my dump and pick-up i will pay a pro. lol

Well it aint nothing new. I did it for years lol. But i had alot nicer truck. there is money to be made in the septic business. As my oldboss would say. As long as people have azzholes, i will have work. lol

Another thing he would say is. When people would ask him how he can stand the smell. He said " what smell?? Thats the smell of money"

That's the same thing i say when people complain about my seafood trailer.

Mackman 08-06-2011 02:23 PM

Well the old honey dipper is all white now. Looks 100 times better. Its crazy how good a coat of paint can make somthing look. I put on 2 med. coats. I will post some pics later today when i get everything un-masked. Should be getting all lettered up next week. But 2morrow i have to go pump out a 3,000gallon holding tank.

Mackman 08-07-2011 08:21 PM

Here she is all painted up. The paint job turn out real good for 350 bucks and 21 hrs labor in it. And painting it in my driveway under a tree lol. Today i did my own house and went out to hit a 3,000gallon holding tank. It wasnt full only got about 1700 out of the holding tank. My own house is 1,000. So i had 2700gallons on the truck. Let me tell you the old 240hp ford knew it was back there. But it did do better then i thought it would.

Yeah the ford looks nice white, but please keep the mack red! Maybe a white stripe on the cab and hood, but not all white.

Blacksheep 09-11-2011 02:37 AM

Nice transformation on the truck, image is king in the business. best of luck.

Mackman 09-26-2011 11:56 PM

Alittle update. So far i pumped 30 people. 2 are business that i go to every 7-10 days.

I grossed 11,800.00 since Aug 1st.

Got my dumping bill for the month of Aug. $399.00 bucks. That was for 17,500 gallons of septage (0.018 a gallon) and 7,000 gallons of holding tank. (0.012 a gallon)

Not to bad for a part time gig.

sidman82 10-14-2011 10:50 PM

You are doing a great job! Septic business is a great venue. Great job on the truck! Best of luck.

Mackman 10-15-2011 04:13 PM

thanks sidman. So far i been doing alright. The hardest thing is getting new customers. If i had the customer base 3,000+ i could really be rolling in the money. But it all takes time.

"Time" waits for no man.

Git yer butt busy and drum up them customers kiddo!! :p

jwnation 10-15-2011 08:12 PM

The first mistake I made as an owner operator was buying a second truck. It is very difficult to drive one and manage both. The biggest obstacle is finding qualified drivers.
