Unfortunately, mommee, our nearest relative is about 40 miles from us and she has her own family. We are doing OK, just moving a bit slowly.
|
Dang Gman, that sounds pretty rough! I hope that balloon under the skin is just swelling. I had a friend that got kicked by a horse and his leg did pretty much tha same thing and it ended up being a busted blood vessel.
Not trying to scare you and I am certainly no doctor but he died in the hospital after they had set his leg ( broken) . Perhaps his being broken makes his injury different from yours ( I hope so ) but nevertheless I thought I would pass that on . |
Well, I certainly hope that I am not going to die from this injury. I know I must have burst some blood vessels from all the blue on my leg and foot. I hope to find something out on Tuesday with my doctor.
|
Ouch! GMAN, it sounds like you might wanna have that leg looked at asap. What would we do without ya on here? Geez, they think the housing crisis is a hit to the economy...just wait till all the o/o's don't have GMAN to fall back on for guidance!
I've been thinking about your accident some. If I understand it correctly, the place where you fell was the gap between the fairings and the frame. That is a VERY dangerous area on those trucks. When I drove for Maverick, I can remember making a mis-step there many times and thinking "man, that would have to hurt". I think I actually did step into the "hole" a couple of times, but always saved myself somehow. I'm just wandering if maybe there isn't a way to extend the deck plate on each side to cover that area up. You would think it would have become a glaring safety issue at some of these larger companies by now. It's obviously an unsafe design. |
I am more confident that you will be just fine. After reading my post it seems that I might have been a bit blunt  Anyway I wish the best for you , you are truly a gem on this forum .
|
I appreciate your confidence in my importance on here, arky. I think the o/o's and forum would get along just fine without my contributions. It is nice to be missed. In any case, I did fall between the frame and fairing. It was simply a careless moment when I wasn't paying attention to where I placed my right foot. My left leg kept me from falling further down and additional injury. I could be talking at a higher pitch had my other leg not caught me. :?
Thanks, Darin. I had a doctor to give it a quick look over at the truck stop where I was sitting. He worked at a DOT clinic. At the time he felt that it was only a very bad bruise. My concern is that there is still so much swelling after 2 weeks. Of course, sitting with my leg down for several hours at a time while driving probably isn't helping the healing process. If it were a blood vessel I think the bruising would still be more obvious. Most of the remnants of bruising have dissipated. I will feel much better after I talk with my doctor. My sister is a nurse and she is pretty concerned about it. I called her and described the injury. Hopefully, it will take care of itself with more time. |

Let's face it G......the older we get...the longer it takes to heal..especially the legs! Well I tell you what guys, I'm 37 and will be 38 this year, and it seems like every other month or so something hurts for a few days to a week. Either ankle, knees, back, neck, etc. It's probably from years of hanging drywall but still...............what the hell's gonna happen in my 40's and fiftys. My s**t just gonna fall off? Don't tell me, I don't want to know. At the show when I woke up on Saturday my knee hurt a little, by 12 when we left I was hurting pretty bad, and by six when I jumped out to refuel I couldn't put any pressure on it. I had to hop. WTH??? outta no where it came. I've taken more Advil in the last six months than I've taken all my life. This getting older is just not funny. |
I am sure you are correct about the longer healing time, Orangetxguy. I usually bounce back fairly quickly from things. This is an unusual injury. I had hoped that it would be mostly healed up by now.
I suppose that I have been pretty lucky over the years. I don't have a lot of aches and pains (other than this thing with my leg). After reading your post, RostyC, I feel very fortunate. I don't take any medications on a regular basis. I do take vitamins and some supplements. There may be some natural supplements you could take for your arthritis and other symptoms. I prefer natural supplements since you don't have the side effects that you do with medications. If there is a Vitamin World near you it might be worth a visit. They are very helpful in finding natural solutions to physical symptoms. Arthritis is related to the auto immune system. If you can boost your auto immune system you might get rid of some of your pain. I have known of people who visit Chiropractors regularly for your type of symptoms. They swear by them. Just a thought. |

Well, if you felt the need to hijack this thread and insult a moderator who's fed up with childish behaviour, I hope you get your wish. :!: Gman, I hope you have talked to your own doctor by now about the swelling. I'm not trying to diagnose a problem via the Internet, nor do I have a medical background but an old friend of mine (we're both mid-50s) ignored a small cut that wouldn't heal on his foot. Like many men he hadn't seen a doctor in years (he's not a trucker, so no physicals for his licence). By the time his sister talked him into going to the emergency room, it was too late to save two toes and part of this foot, a result of an infection that got worse because of undiagnosed diabetes. And a month later, he's still in the hospital. That's a long-winded point to never ignore a small problem, especially those of us who can remember when diesel was 45 cents a gallon and CB radios required a licence. |

I still have my 23 channel CB. ;
|
lol...well, I can remember the 23 channel CB, I had one or two. I'm just a young pup though at 42.
|
GMAN, don't forget to update us when you get back from the doc. All joking aside, I always wish the best for someone who is as helpful to others as you are.
Hoping you get a good report and maybe some relief! Arky |
Thanks Professor and Arky. I wanted to wait to see if the swelling would go down and see if I could wait until I could see my own doctor. I did see him today and he told me that I busted a main blood vessel and that he thought that I had about 1 1/2 pints of blood in the side of my leg. He isn't sure if it is still seeping or not. His main concern seems to be whether I have a blood clot which might let loose and hit my lungs. That would not be a good thing. I have to go back to have an ultra sound done on Thursday. That will tell him what we are dealing with. I have circulation in my leg and foot, but the blood isn't returning as it should right now. The thought is that I have an aneurysm in the leg. He doesn't want me to do any driving right now, but that isn't possible unless I can come up with a couple of good drivers in short order.
|
Man, if this had been just a month or two earlier, I have a friend that has been flatbedding for about 3 years. He's been waiting for his wife to get her CDL and their going to drive for Fedex White Glove starting next week. But anyway, he quit his job just before Christmas and then it's just been one delay after another and he's been begging for something temporary to help with the bills. But, it's too late for that, I think they set their orientation schedule today.
But still, I would sure like to see ya listen to the doc. I'm assuming your committed to a customer or amybe customers, but hopefully you can work something out. Take care of that leg and get yourself healed up. |
I am glad your friend found a good position, arky. Finding qualified drivers is always a challenge. Hopefully, the doctor will give me the OK to drive after Thursday. Even without a blood clot, the healing process could take several months, according to my doctor. I can't afford to take that much time off work. I could probably do more dispatching. I haven't really spent much time building that part of my business. I have some good paying freight coming out of Tennessee for the next few weeks. I could probably keep ten trucks busy with those loads. They are mostly for side kits. But, I still prefer driving myself.
I plan on following the doctor's advice, if I can. In any case, I need to work. |
Gman,
Have you thought about putting in a claim under your Occupational Disability Policy? Not sure if you have one. Hope your leg heals up quick. |
Oh yes, believe me, I understand about the "should do" and "gotta do" delemna..LOL.
I'm sure you could keep several trucks busy given your connections and years of experience. In fact, you could probably be a great service to A LOT of o/o's just getting them some decent paying freight. Best of luck and hopefully the doc will give you a good report thursday! |
This ill prob get me banned but Twilight Flyers small man attitude stinks!!!! In the meantime, the thread is about G-man and currently discussing his leg injury. Here's hoping it heals up quickly, G-man. That one didn't sound good at all. |

Unfortunately, I let my Occupational Disability Policy lapse when I stopped driving all the time. Whatever needs to be done will need to be paid for by yours truly. I suppose it is true what they say about hindsight being 20/20.

I appreciate it. I haven't pursued the dispatching much. Depending on what the doctor says, it would certainly be an option. I really hate to see all this freight going to waste. It usually takes time to find the better paying loads. It is difficult to drive and do justice to those whom I dispatch. That is the main reason that I haven't pursued the dispatching. Initially, I thought I had at least one good driver. Unfortunately, he didn't work out. It is difficult to let a couple of trucks sit without some income on them. Of course, if I had enough trucks to dispatch I would not worry about them. Thanks for your concern. I will let you know what the doctor say Thursday. |

GMAN, i have sent you an email
|
Sorry, baileydale. I never received your email. If you meant that you sent me a pm, I believe you need to have 50 posts to send a pm.

I thought that I would give everyone an update. I went to have my test today on my leg. Thankfully, there was no blood clot. There is a very large hematoma on my leg. The doctor seemed quite shocked that there wasn't anything more serious that showed up. He thought it would go away in a few weeks. He also said that he didn't see any problem with me going back to work. He did say that I might want to get one of those elastic stockings for my leg if I planned to stand on it a lot. This is an answer to a lot of prayers. I appreciate everyone's concerns. It still looks bad, but I can deal with that. I may still have a bump on my leg where I got hurt, but the majority of the swelling and blood should go away with time. The blood should be absorbed back into the body. The body is an amazing thing.
|
Definitely good to hear. Glad it wasn't as serious as it could have been.
|
Great News!! Thanks for the update!
|
Go with the fish net and line up the back, much more support. You could also go with the full blown version and loose a few inches on the mid section too.
Maybe BC could chime in, he's trying to bring sexy back to trucking. |
Glad to hear the good report, GMAN.

I do need to make sure that I am color coordinated. Thanks for the fashion tips.

Great news GMAN !! I did send you an e-mail but with this news I don't guess it is important. Anyway, glad to hear it's going to be fine.

Thanks, baileydale. I am sorry that I didn't get your email.

Hi, G-Man!!
Sorry, I'm a little late to school !! I'm sorry to learn of your leg injury, but very happy to learn that it's nothing too serious. Regarding the TTED stockings; wearing them would be excellent advice, as they do improve vascular function and circulation. I am personally very grateful that that subject was brought up. It will give me the PERFECT excuse next time my wife barges into the bedroom and catches me trying on her pan.........   OOOppppss!!!! .......... Never Mind!!   :D |
:D Glad to hear you're gonna be okay Gman and will be back on the road where I know you're in your true element! Somehow I get the feeling you wouldn't be happy in the dispatching gig as those four walls would soon close in on you and drive you nuts. Advice from yourself, Twilight Flyer, Useless, and some of the other old farts helps these new kids tremendously and more than likely have saved some lives. Keep up the great work and take care of yourself!! 8)

I still have a log of swelling and a large area which still resembles a balloon under the skin on my thigh just above my knee. Hopefully, it will go away with time. At least it wasn't something which could be debilitating. You could just tell your wife that you are using the stockings for medical purposes. You need to wear them to improve circulation. There is probably a new DOT rule which states that drivers must use the stockings.

Thanks, Midnight Flyer. I prefer driving, but will probably pursue the dispatching. It does require a lot of time at the computer and telephone to find the better paying loads. It is difficult to do a good job dispatching drivers or independents when I am on the road. You are correct about staying home. It can get old staying at home all the time. I am still moving a bit slower, but can get the job done. |
