What's the deal with LTL freight on a 53 ft dry van?
I am doing 3 pickups in the Edmonton, Alberta area and as I discovered the carrier will pay me ... 6 cents per mile extra! All the LTL loads have their separate load numbers (a requirement for the $0.06 cpm bonus), so I'm making a killing :) 2200 miles from here to Toronto, ONT via Canada. I'm just curious: anyone knows how much shippers pay for LTL? At one stop I picked up only 2 skids but they still go 2200 miles. The carrier will probably get a lower pay than for picking up a truckload, right.? But seeing they're willing to pay me this bonus, they must be making good money.

Are you paid mileage, or %?

LTL is charged by deck space required for each order. 2 pallets require 4 feet of deck space. One roll of carper, if it is 12 feet long, requires 12 feet of deck space. One 6'X15' piece of equipment requires 15 feet of deck. LTL usually pay's very well, $$$ wise. |
Very very few Canadian carriers pay percentage. I can only think of one locally, and it's a small outfit of 25 trucks.

One time I picked up 3 pallets in Laredo, Tx and pulled them to Louisville, KY. Total weight was about 800# .

1.12 per mile for all miles - loaded and empty 1.30 if the load originates in ONT, Canada and goes to North-East USA Plus fuel surchage |

Who do you work for?
BTW, be happy you're even getting a load out of Edmonton. |
