I gotcha. I think they pulled them off today, but they haven't started sanding the truck yet, so it's not that much of an issue right now. I'm sure they'll close them off once they get to that point. I'll be stopping back there on Monday of next week to see how things are going. I hope to see some major changes by then.

I'm sorry, but since I wasn't getting anywhere finding a set of cleaners, I decided to have my originals wrapped in satin black vinyl, which will look just like paint but will be a heck of a lot more durable (and is only costing $150 to do). At this point they are likely already done (I'll find out on Monday when I go back to the body shop to see the progress). They are doing the same thing to the grill surround, only that will be done in clear vinyl.

Oh no need to be sorry. I wasn't expecting you to wait on me or anything.
You just saved me 500.00
Combine that with my tax rebate and I'm up 1700.00 on the year!

That sounds pretty cool what their doing to your existing ones and the grill.
Does the vinyl sit tight to the surface? I guess it adheres somehow? I'd be interested to learn about that. I wonder if it starts out as some kind of soft material and then it hardens? Interesting stuff.

I tossed and turned last night myself and it's not even my truck.

I'll expect that you'll have my 15% consulting fee in the mail on Monday. :D

From what I was told, it is the same vinyl that they use for doing lettering, only in larger quantities. Eventually, it will start to chip (especially in the front), but it will take longer to happen than it would for paint. At that point, it is simply a matter of peeling off the old vinyl and putting a new piece on. They said I can expect to get a few years out of it before I'll notice anything. They are planning on using the clear stuff on many of the forward surfaces, such as the grill surround, the front of the rear fenders, the visor, and the mirrors.

 Thanks. I guess that's why I slept like a baby last night. Tomorrow afternoon I am heading down to Rockford to attend a required class for Landstar, and on my way back on Monday I will be stopping at the shop to take more pics. I'm figuring they will be very close to laying down paint at that point.

Rev, that vinyl sounds interesting, I have full fenders on my drives and

have noticed that the paint on the fenders that are facing forward are

starting to chip where I guess road debri is hitting it. I have been looking

for something to install on the front of the fenders to protect them without

it looking like crap. This just might be the answer. Do you know if the

clear vinyl will turn color over time.

They mentioned something about this, but I think it is more of an issue on white than on colors. If it starts to turn yellow, then peel it off and reapply.

Wow, that sounds really cool. Gives me some ideas as well. With the clear stuff on the grill and visor I would imagine it would save you from having to polish? Just wash and go.

I dropped that 15% in the mail this morning, keep your eye out for it.
