Running APU against EPA
I just finished loading a Maverick driver that had a battery powered AC unit on top of his sleeper. He said that Maverick and Walmart were installing those because EPA is trying to stop drivers from using their APU's.
Has anyone heard of this? |
If that is true I wonder what all the drivers that invested in APU's will do?
|
That's the same thing I was thinking! I had put one in my budget for spring!
|
I thought Maverick just outfitted 1000 of their trucks with APU's. I would hazard a guess that the battery powered AC could be for those that didn't get the APU's.
|
The EPA has already mandated that all APU's will be of the Tier 3 class. They are trying to get that put into place for 2008. If your truck already has an APU you are grandfathered in and don't have to change.
|
Walmart has APU's and Espar bunk heaters on most trucks.
|
I think I also read some where that if truck is 2006 or older you with not be effected by the new changes to the CARB law.
But a battery powered unit does sound interesting! From what I understand they charge while the truck is running and heat and cool for up to 8 or 10 hours! www.nitesystem.com |
Yes but the system does not run off the trucks batteries. They have a special set of batteries that total 300 pounds.

Ask Dogboy(Doghouse). :D He knows all about A/C and batteries. Read his thread. He has some info on it somewhere.
