What's the bad part about going to port newark? This is a thread that I had hope to see on the boards because I am starting to think about starting a small company with myself and my father as the drivers. I would really like to run a day cab as I'm sure my dad would also. Is containers a good way to get into the O/O side of things? I have about 3 years experience and my dad would be taking a cdl school when his company finally closes the doors.

I would like to haul something simple so it is not to much for my dad to handle as soon as he gets his license.

The port at NJ is real busy and you can spend the better part of your day just getting in,dropping off your container and getting a new one,that is if your lucky enough to get one at the same port,you may have to go wait in line for another terminal and do the process all over again.

Yes doing the O/O thing pulling containers is pretty easy and would work for a start up job,BTT does require 2 years driving exp though.

Hauling containers the way I was is by far the easiest job I ever had,I had a drop and hook at the shipper and then took the container off at the rail yard(all I did was unlock the pins) in Detroit and then put a empty back on and took back to shipper,did 2 runs a day and made about $600 a day in 12 hours.

Mike, about how many miles did you do to make that?

probably 500-550,funny I ran that load for almost 3 years straight and never how may miles,just wasn't something I worried about I guess.

I just ran it on PC Miler and it comes up with 536 on pratical.

Thanks for the info Mike, I guess I will have to look at getting my own authority then as I'm sure pretty much everyone will want lease op employee's to have at least 1-2 years experience.

This is going to be a lot harder than I wanted it to be, just for me and the old man to do something together.

600 for a 12 hr day running 500-550 miles am no O/O but that dont sound like it is even worth it.
