IFTA Help

Ok, I need help with this stupid piece of crap dumb stupid yellow green dumb stupid crapola IFTA junk.....Ok...I'm better

Do you guys sit down every night on the road and record how many miles you did in each state? I didn't. Do I now go through my log book and try to re trace my steps over the past few months? I can use my National Truck Stop Directory that lists how many miles for each RT through each state.

But seriously. Or do you guys just estimate and say, oh lets see, I'll put down 1000 here 500 there and guess?

This is gonna take some time!!!

Sucks huh! I always spaced it off until the end also. I used my streets and trips software to come with the miles.

Steve -

Thank goodness you finally had a glitch. I was beginning to think you knew it all and were perfect, too!

You can use a map and get as close as you can on the miles, but for future reference an easier way is to just jot down the odometer reading when you cross a state line. I keep a notebook just for that purpose. It also helps if I have to rebuild a log for some reason (not an illegal reason, something more like an accidental shredding reason  ) My logs also have space on them for your mileage and fuel purchases in each state. It is very handy for doing IFTA at the end of the quarter. All I have to do is add up each state and make sure they total my odometer total for that quarter and verify my fuel entries to my fuel tickets. You can get them at JJ Keller or have a print shop make some for you. Since I am independent, I had a print shop make mine - single ply 'cause I'm the driver and the carrier. 2 ply is redundant and storage is the same location, so if I lost driver copy I'd also lose carrier copy. 1000 loose-leaf sheets for $88 with name and address imprinted, including binder holes punched where ever you want them.

Hope this helps.

We mark the odometer reading on a trip sheet when entering and leaving each state. We submit them to our permit service and they do the rest.

Hey Steve, you could use PC miler, plot the route and the program will give you the miles in every state along the route you traveled.

i did my old mans ifta return but he wrote down on a chart i made up on the computer with all the states i knew he travels trough and have him fill out each day with mile and galon in wich state and at the end of 3 months i just add them up fill in ifta chart write check and send in. the whole thing takes me 15 to 20 min and my old man never complained about having to write down the info.

Ya, I hear you all. I guess I just need to write down the miles every night. Like I said, The National Truck Stop Directory has maps that list the distance for every highway through every state so I'll use that and retrace my steps.

I always put down beginning odometer entering and exiting a state.
