I fail to see the point. The phone bill is a legitimate expense, and therefore should be considered. Just like your wages, laundry expenses, shower expenses, etc. Just because you would have them even if you weren't an O/O doesn't matter. They are still EXPENSES.

But, why not include pay? It is certainly a legitimate expense, as I don't do this for free.
In addition to including your pay (to yourself or a driver), I believe you should include your return on investment (ROI) as well. The money you took to invest in your equipment which could have been earning interest elsewhere. Your bottom line should include that as well.

Agree with you guys about including driver pay and ROI, however I can see the logic behind leaving them out. They can vary enough that you might want add them in later, after calculating what your personal situation requires.

i.e again, on 100,000 miles, if your costs are $.85, you might want to average $1.25 to get into the business.....$.85 + $.35 for driver (yourself) + $.05 for ROI. $1.25 for all miles for an o/o ain't likely to happen though....which is a problem IMO.

Rank, why do you say that? I'm a little confused, given your other posts on the subject of rates.

If all you want to earn is $0.35 per mile, there are plenty of company jobs out there that will accomodate you, and you won't have the headache of being an O/O. There isn't any reason to be an O/O for that kind of income.

I fail to see yours....
Were talking about buisiness expenses, not personal and telephone bill is a personal expense that i had when i wasnt in this thing....i dont have laundry expens as well as shower since i wash my clothes here at home and shower through points..

So you dont ever call a customer to get directions? You dont call a dispatcher/broker to get load information? If you do any of those things then it is no longer just a personal expense, it becomes a business expense and part of it, if not all, becomes tax deductible.
