Onions suck!! Did you get the individual bag on a pallet or the half assed stacked pallets of bags with the fancy netting holding them on

LOL, sounds like you came down the wrong side of Tehachapi  Word to the wise, I guarantee that road wasn't legal for you. If the route isn't highlighted as being in the National Network on your atlas, it's restricted to 65' in CA. It's a decent fine and a moving violation there, don't know about NH.
Smart not letting them talk you into the NJ load. I hate the idea of having to register to deliver something there. Just out of curiosity, how are the onions paying this year? |

Smart not letting them talk you into the NJ load. I hate the idea of having to register to deliver something there. Just out of curiosity, how are the onions paying this year? Why would I have to register to deliver to NJ? The onions were paying $4.75 per bag and I was able to put 880 bags on. I turned the load down right away when they said the load was paid by the bag. He said why. I said because I don't trust anyone telling me they will get this many on and I end up with half the amount. He called back and said what if I can guarantee you a certain amount. I said no, my phone was ringing non stop and there were tons of loads. He said, what would it take. I said give me $5,000 flat fee to go to Boston and I can scale 48,000. He said ok and I have 44,000 on board. You just can't fit any more pallets on there or I would have taken 48,000. I drove like 680 miles for $580 once because it was a load of RR ties and they said most drivers take this many. Well, I found out why. They were all illegal and carrying I'm guessing 90,000 pounds. So, never again on this per piece pricing crapola. |
so.....how many bags do you have on? and what would've the rate been at the price per bag quote?

Very few states actually post "No Trucks" on their roads. You have to check your route against your atlas. Besides, it was truck legal with a 30'+ kingpin, but not if you're over 65 feet  Once you're off the Interstate system in some states, there can be a lot of restrictions. California's one of the worst.
In order to pick-up or deliver in NJ, you have to be registered with the state. If you are a Corp. or an LLC, you also have to pay a $500 minimum tax. Sole Proprietors and Partnerships don't have to pay, but you still have to register. You can drive through with no problem, but if you get caught picking up or delivering the fine is hefty...$10,000 I believe. |
No Worries, I challenge you to site proof that Steve was illegal. The fact is that for scarry CA state highways the state only gives an advisory with a yellow warning sign. Trucks are allowed to travel on them at their own risk. Legislation has never passed anything preventing this. As trucks became longer the laws never changed. It is truly amazing. I've been told that the trucking industry has managed to keep it that way.
