Newbie? I've made it 3 winters so far without them so far. I've done the Rockies etc. without them, until they require and I'll shut down. Hell, I bobtailed to Denver once in the snow, and had to buy a new steering wheel when I arrived, lol

Sorry I don't count second seat ..... doesn't count unless you the one manuevering it down. Next thing you'll be telling me is you don't know how to hang iron but you've watch everyone do it repeatedly so you're pretty sure you can do it. I do realize one thing though.....you're just a kid. :) Do you bedbuggers hire labor for load in and load out?? I understand that these folks are trusting all of their worldly possessions to you... are you handholders, psychologists and mover all in one?? |

It's okay...let's just not let this happen again.
Bandit's such a newb, I sat there for about 30 minutes one day while he tried to get his trailer to move...come to find out the brakes were still on  |

That's pretty cheap, for a 2-day load. I'm assuming 2 guys, and yourself...one full day, and then a 1/2 day?
Jeff-Rule # 1 to being a WINNER: NEVER start a contest you're going to lose!! :P |

Day 2: 2 men from 8 am to 5 pm - $150 each Plus myself, of course. Labor in Denver is really hard to come by right now - they have so many jobs going on. The guy who they (finally) got to pick up the second part of the load wanted 4 men, but they said that they could only get him 2. I feel sorry for the shipper. The second driver was given 1 1/2 days to get the load done (part of Wed. and all of Thurs.), and he called on Wed. and said he wasn't coming until Thursday morning, because he had to fold pads. And even then, he said he wasn't having his labor come out until noon. Now how he expected to get 26,000 lbs done in 5 hours is beyond me..... But, with a few well placed phone calls, I nipped this disaster in the bud, and they said they would have a full crew out there first thing in the morning. Amazing how I have to do everyone else's job for them..... |
That's the business these days.
The shipper I loaded yesterday, it was his first move ever (military job as well) and the TMO officer came out the day that they were packing, and told the shipper NOT to let the packers/movers out of his site and that he is to watch every move that we make. Now-this is just what he told me, like he even has anything that I would feel inclined to steal. Anyways, he didn't want to sign off on my inventories, b/c he didn't feel that his 7 month old recliner was worn, or soiled..I tried to explain it to him, and he still didn't agree with me, and he also wanted to dispute the "mcu" I put on all of his appliances, t.v. etc., b/c apparently "he can vouch for the fact that they work". I told him, "Sir, I'm not going to do a load of laundry, to verify that your washer and dryer do indeed work properly". TMO came back out and explained to him what I had been trying to tell him, and amazingly he believed them. I guess you when you get a 25 year old driver coming to pick your stuff up, you must remain leary of them. Tomorrow, I load 12k and the shipper who's name I am going to butcher all day long (15 letters and NO vowels, lol) wants me to load tomorrow and manage to make the 2,300 mile/35 hour (now that's wheel time) and unload on the 7th, b/c that's when they're going to be ready for me. Sorry, that's NOT how it works folks. There are other shipments on here that loaded before and come off before yours. I'm not goign to trek 1/2 way across Washington to get YOUR shipment off, then trek 1/2 way back to where I was to finish unloading, just b/c it's convenient for you. On a side note, I will say this about Graebel...they did provide me with some of the better lumpers I've had in awhile. I hired a kid at Planes today in Cincinnati to help me out, and this kid (18) ran everywhere he went, called me sir, and if I didn't know better I would have swore he was on speed or something, he worked so quickly. |
Well got to stick with the KW man Mad Dog would have my hide otherwise, besides no one is driving a Westernstar. A real Westernstar not the new Westershakers.
Teal just let them all think you don't have a chance.....you know lead them down the dark alley and leave them. |
Man, if I would have known the logo on my truck would make me THIS popular, I would have bought it a LONG time ago ;)
|
Pick on me all you want Bush Bunny, you don't know me or my abilities. Maybe cuz I didn't go to trucking school? You've been at it longer, so you think you're better than me, so its all good...I'm just a kid and you're intimidated by that.
And Teal- tell the story like it is! We sat there for a bit trying to get the trailer brakes unlocked, when it was the cam that must have rolled over. Priceless when you couldn't get it to move either  :P I'm on waiting time, so my random posts shall continue. Revenue...revenue...revenue.... |

You guys (and gals) need someone to pick on? I AM HERE, and I am used to it.
:D |
Thanks Horsepower but I can handle my own fights on this board. Bring it Bandit do you think you handle it from a woman driver.
Let's see you asked what was I ..... just a lowly O/O hauling frozen food so you can eat. O/O for 21 years, been driving for 24 and no don't have a clue about school. I was asked by the guy I'm in business with to see if I wanted to learn a new profession....found myself unemployed a very long time ago. Never said you were better than me but I can read between the lines....dont' think much of females driving Bandit? Think maybe I'm just a stupid female driver who doesn't have a clue. You know Bandit this is the first time I have ever posted anything to you .... one of the many reasons I keep more and more of my knowledge to myself. Oh I forgot Bandit, you don't think I have any knowledge to share. My mistake again. My money is still on Teal, hell at least he pretends to treat me like an equal. |
Exactly, HorsePower is the perfect scapegoat!
BTW- I been away a lot, how is the teaching going? If you wanna pull containers in the summer, you could always rent like me  I just got a call from dispatch...looks like I gotta make my first trip into Canada next week with my "backhaul" from the southeast...EH? 8) You betcha! Home of the "Trailer Park Boys" :P |
well, school is out in a week. These kids are already there... can't really pour any valuable knowledge into them anymore. It's a jungle.
I'm buying a truck this month. There, that should get you guys going... :D |

Hahhaha. I knew she'd turn it into a woman-driver thing, I KNEW IT. I just didn't want to say it. I think you're insecure or something, because I never mention gender in this, I just can't handle multiple posts how you should stay away from me on the mountains.
I could cae less if you are a woman or man, I just see words on the computer screen, thats all. Sorry to offend you, but we all had to go down the mountains at one time or another without a jake, and you think you're high and mighty cuz you did it already. Now lets end the pissing match and talk about bedbugging or PM me if you think I have a problem with women drivers. BTW- one of my regular helpers is a 44 year old woman named Kim, and Teal can back me up on that. Peace. |
You guys should see ME going down the Smokeys without a Jake
...run for your lives!!! |
Well duh....Bandit how many men do you know called Bush Bunny?
I'm not a "helper" I'm a partner an equal in our truck. Hell no I'm not PM you....got anything to say I say in from of all of you. I've been on this board long enough you knew I was female. Insecure .... nope, just a little tired of you "boys" and attitudes. Just because I come back to you I'm insecure......nah, just not afraid of sticking up for myself been doing it a long time is all. Mountains without a jake ..... no I do it on a regular basis, gee I even clutch and double clutch too! Make me a better driver ..... nope, just the way I was train and it has become habit. But since this thread is all about you and your friends, bed bugging, I'll make sure I stay clear. Hate for you to associate with an O/O who is not in your same line of work. BTW Bandit, I was only teasing but I see you are one of the ones who can seem to take a joke either. |

Do you plan to pull containers this summer? You can make it work if you pay off the truck and run it yourself till August. Then when you learn the ropes, you can put a driver in it while you teach and still make a dime while doing other busines (ie: teaching) and keeping your cartage contract active. BTW- daycab or sleeper? |
Bunny: do you really double clutch, still?

Bush Bunny, enough is enough. Seriously.
You called me "newbie" (with a year and 1/2 driving) and I'm "just a kid" etc etc. re read your posts. Never did I bring up the fact you're a woman, EVER, nor hint at it, because gender and driving do not correlate. If I came out and said "you're just a woman" then all hell would break loose, but I don't care what you are...all we are, are PEOPLE. I've seen horrible women and men drivers. Don't jab me with "I'm just a kid" crap, okay? Discriminating on anyone due to race, age, religion, or gender is a no-no in today's business world, and even on the personal level. BTW- my female helper has something to do with this, because she runs circles around some guys I hire, and thats why she gets paid more than them some days. |

When going uphill especially, I find it hard to double clutch. It seems I "loose" some speed as I take the extra time for it in between the gears.

I hear you loud and clear Bandit, won't darken your doorstep again. I know not to post about you again. I'll steer clear. |
I'm just trying to keep this from being locked, its been going great so far.
|
Maybe I should join the contest...
come on, that was funny! Do I see a smile in there? |
Originally, in another section of this board, I mentioned that other o/o's are welcomed to join that run similar operations. However, due to the bedbugging industry, we get a lot of extra pay for tasks we do, even though the money goes out the door almost as quick as it comes in :x
And yes, I'm smiling :P |
more like laughing on the floor. It's ok, I am doing the same.
I could never do what you do. |

First what does the BS stand for in front of Bunny? I have a couple of ideas but humor me and spell it out. Get off your BS Bunny. so i have a piece of crap freightliner century class that i swapped for during thr transition. It has no jake brake, any recommendations for going down Mont eagle? Don't be scared to run down a mountain with me, I only cook in the kitchen, not my brakes BTW- I've only been driving about a year and change, but I've been down grapevine, cabbage, and monteagle 2nd seat since I was 5, so I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly But if you have seen the good, the bad and the ugly then why did you ask for help? I would think all that second seat experience and you would be able to handle little Mount Eagle. Then we have the newbie status, right? You don't think you're a newbie because you have a year and a six months in behind the wheel?! You called me "newbie" (with a year and 1/2 driving) BTW- I drove 18 wheels at 16 year of age, so pick on this "newbie" all you want, Then we get down to the nitty gritty, you think Bush Bunny is picking on you. Then you say you didn't know she was a woman you only look at the words. WRONG Bandit, you knew she was a woman been on the board about a year. You just made the fatal mistake that she is not afraid to stick up for herself. Nope not like most woman drivers, she will stand her ground and go head to head with ya. I could cae less if you are a woman or man, I just see words on the computer screen, thats all. Sorry to offend you, but we all had to go down the mountains at one time or another without a jake, and you think you're high and mighty cuz you did it already. She doesn't PM people that she is having a discussion with on the board. What's a matter Bandit...couldn't say what you wanted to say would rather keep it a secret? You're right she doesn't know your abilities but I can guarantee you one thing if you can't drive down a mountain w/o a jake after 1 1/2 years OTR she would not be able to trust you with her life. Guess it's a good thing you're solo, huh? BTW Bandit, Bush Bunny didn't go to driving school either. I taught her how to drive 24 years ago, her record is complete clean, she didn't have a family member to help her along the way only me. So, if you have issues on how she drives best be talking to me I'm her teacher/trainer, best friend, team mate, and partner in our business. I'm pretty sure she can out drive you too. I'm just a kid and you're intimidated by that. One last thing Bandit, Bush Bunny can fight her own fights on this forum and she does a pretty dang good job at it too. I'm not here to fight her fight but....when you think you are a better driver than my partner and show no respect to her as a driver I step in. I currently have to tolerance anymore with anyone down grading my partner. I have draw the line in the sand, she has been out here earning respect from drivers for 24 years and you "newbies" need to learn how to respect us with more experience. Just so the Mods are happy and back to the thread.....have at it bedbuggers the last thing we would ever want to do again is moved someone's household. Eeeewwww! |
Thank you for the post, and your interest in Bush Bunny's comments. "BS" stands for bullcrap, actually, that a nicer way to put it. Also, when someone keeps posting the same thing over and over about staying away from me on the mountains, the repetitiveness is annoying, and she was clearly gunning for me. "you're just a kid" and blah blah blah....I'm gonna start picking on people based on age too 8)
If I can't ask a question here, then what good is this forum? I know damn well to drop a few gears when going down without a jake...thats common sense. For the most part I got good advice to reaffirm my intentions. I'd love to stay away from people that DON'T ask advice before attempting no-jake downhilling, I'm just a turd for asking, I suppose. As far as her being a woman...DUH...I knew she was a woman. But I don't care, it was the attitude I got from her and all her " " remarks even after I tried to make a joke after the first one. Then she talks about hanging iron, and all this other stuff. Great, fantastic, woopee, I'm just a newbie kid. As far as my second seat comment, I just meant to get at the fact I've seen a lot of drivers smoke their brakes, as I've been in the truck since before I was in 1st grade. Daddy didn't let me drive the truck around the block, I got to open her up out West a time or 2 8) Doesn't matter what you think, I have several observations PM'd to me from neutral parties saying I NEVER mentioned gender in my posts, and that Bush Bunny threw out the gender card wayyyyy too soon and was totally unprovoked. But her, she meant to pick on me, says so in black and white  Bedbugging isn't for everyone, but thats why we're nicknamed "gluttons for punishment" :P |

BTW- I've seen plenty of women drivers that can put it in the hole a lot quicker and with fewer tries than me, and male drivers who take down fences backing in at the truckstop. Is this gonna be a crap on bandit thread, or are we gonna discuss PITA customers, boxes, and sleeper sofas that need to go up 4 flights of stairs? 8) |
For some reason, I see mine and the Rev.'s popularity growing stronger and stronger ;)
Thanks for the vote there BushBunny. And, IIRC, I always go down mountains without my jakes. That's the way I had to do it at my driving school, they never let us us jakes. They even taught us going over mountains in the snow  |
I asked my Dad this question, and he replied.." I always use the jakes going downhill, especially since I'm the one who pays for new ones(brakes)". Food for thought 8)

Is this gonna be a crap on bandit thread. Actually Bandit you need to pay better attention to what was posted here....BB been driving and earning respect of all drivers for 24 years. Heck man you weren't even born yet and probably not thought about either! For someone who knew the answer to his question, I think you set yourself up for some jabbing. You said you're not a newbie, you knew to drop gears, so why did anyone need to reconfirm that? A newbie would ask that question, you asked BB labeled you a newbie. Me thinks she is right. Me nope, don't use a jake unless I need to downhill and I replace my own brakes too. 8) |
