Was looking at Freightliner's website and noticed they have dropped the Classic XL. Was wondering why since I thought they were a big seller and were very nice looking trucks.

Too busy supplying all those throw away trucks too the mega carriers maybe? That would be one guess. Also maybe with the economy like it is they weren't selling enough of them to justify making them anymore.

They combined the Classic XL features into the Coronado. They built this platform around the new engines, Cummins ISX and DD-16 Detroit both 600 hp. They are down to just 3 platforms, the Coronado, Cascadia, and the M-2. The website shows a Texas bumper, with a squared grill. I think you can still order an extended hood. They brag about the stylish new dash, but I think it sucks. It's always been my opinion, the designers never talk to real Truckers for their input.

I always liked the look of the Classic. I have never cared much for the design of the Coronado. I would expect that there has been a lot of pressure put on the company to produce more fuel efficient trucks. I am sure the Coronado is more fuel efficient than the Classic.

I spoke with Freightliner of Grand Rapids about this, and fuel effeciency was a big motivation as well as tooling for the new engines. They had to address some practicality concerns with production and industry standards. The Coronado platform was selling better in the final years, as well as already had more of the updated production designs, over the Classic.

Yeah Roadhog, I studied the new 2010 Coronado on Freightliner's website and it looks like they mated it with the Classic XL. Not a bad looking truck. Does anyone know if they're still gonna keep the Century Class and the Columbia?

Cascadia will soon replace the Century and the Columbia, along with all their versions.
They will be discontinued in 2010.

I like the Coronado's look. Everyone I know who has one loves the way it handles and it's comfort.

Have heard pretty mixed opinions on the Cascadia.

The day of the ture Long Hoods are coming to an end. No more big air cleaners sticking out the side. Or your stacks right next to you. Its a shame. Only real truck left is the W9.

... and the C5 ... and the T800H ... and the 389. Admittedly, the 'new' Titan isn't bad either.
