No on will hire me !!!!!

" I just finished truck driving school and paid $4000.00 for it, and now no one will hire me. The school and the recruiters told me that my DUI that is two years old won't be a problem in getting a job driving the big rigs. This has been my dream since I was a little kid !!! "

Did you try asking an owner operator for a job? Maybe one who hauls nursery stock and other niche products. I bet they would be ready to give a new recruit like you a job. That DUI thing. Doesn't mean anything.

Don't worry. Write a nice letter to the jodge and explain how this is an impediment to your future career. Most jodges will show compassion and overlook your youthful indiscretion.

That's what I heard anyhow.

:lol::lol:Just be sure you know the difference between a "jodge" and a "judge"... It seems most jodges are "softies", where judges may not be....:rofl::rofl:

Shouldn't be a problem Diesel! A couple of DUIs are par for the course in an industry where consumption of alcoholic beverages within the workplace is completely legal and even encouraged. At least according to CAD regulatory, legal and morality expert Golfhobo. Lest we forget Golfhobo's advice to the newcomers on CAD........

"Having alcohol in your truck WHILE OFF DUTY, is not a violation! So, kick back with a SIX in the cooler and watch your movies."~Golfhobo

Nothing like being well informed.

Well Big diesel to use your very own words to others who have spoken about the very same thing...

McDonalds and BK are always hiring.....

BigDiesel:

I suggest that you contact "The Federal Marshall" and explain to him that a friend spiked the 14 Cokes that you drank in 2 hours time without telling you. The cop that stopped you had no right to violate your civil liberties by requiring you to take a sobriety test, and The Federal Marshall has straightened out more than a few cops and DOT Nazis in his time.

The fact that this is your first DUI, and the fact that the offense will be over ten years old in just another eight years or so shouldn't be a problem. Most trucking companies are very understanding about such unfortunate circumstances.

Well it might be tough as alot of companies won't hire someone with a DUI for insurance reasons. It might cause them to have to pay more money to an insurance company.

Another possible reason is that a DUI makes it real tough for a driver to go into Canada if the need should arise. It can be done but you need to get a queens pardon (send them money and they will let you in) or some paperwork from the courts that would allow you into canada (again more money)

I never ever had a DUI in my life or even and open container in a motor vehicle violation but I do know many that have.

GMAN 12-14-2008 02:59 PM

I was in a local truck stop having lunch the other day when I over heard a conversation between a fellow customer and an employee who worked at the truck stop. The worker told the customer that he had 3 DUI's. :eek1:

That’s baby $hit!! Just pathetic, I have a friend with 7 DUI’s and he received two in one week. Not to mention him leading Illinois state troopers on a high speed pursuit across I-70 in his kenworth when he still had a license. And don’t think not having a license anymore is going to stop him from driving and drinking.

I know a guy who got 2 DUI's in ONE DAY! He was arrested once and the second time later that night trying to retrieve his car.

i'm here. =)

i will tell you something though. seeing how i am so anal about backing, and that i am somewhat of a perfectionist, AND i dont want to make a mistake backing and look 'stupid', i take pride in my backing skills. Granted, i overcorrect once in a while, and i am sure the guys on either side of me when i pull into that spot at night, their pucker-factor goes up a little. But I think i am pretty good. I just came from a shipper, and the truck stop i'm at tonight, i've seen 4 swift drivers park.....AND OH MY GAWD.... if those guys past, i think i am going to get my 70 year old father who hasnt driven a truck in 10 years, who has one bad hip, replaced the other, and arthritis in both hands, and get him back into a truck.

trust me, swift wouldn't even touch somebody with a dui, regardless of how old the conviction is. they also won't touch anybody who has ever refused a piss test, or has failed one in the past.

however, i do know that western express will take anybody. i know somebody that has 7 truck abandonment instances. yet, western express still accepted him.

yes, i know this post is in tongue-in-cheek humor.

Big Diesel......don't forget that you will need to shred your CDL and cancel your memberships to all trucking related boards. Last but not least, be sure that you then go to a very popular board and announce it to everyone!

Of course............then continue to keep posting anyways..............:p

My brother has a PhD in DUIs. He also holds the St. Petersburg, FL record for most public intoxication arrests in one day: four. After the last arrest of the day, the Chief of Police found him walking home, picked him up and drove him the rest of the way there. He made sure that James (my brother) had enough booze and tobacco to last him through the weekend and told him that if he saw him outside any further than his front porch that he was going to be locked up for a very long time.

I also knew a guy; Blacktail Deer was his name, who served a 56 month prison sentence for driving on a suspended license. The Florida judge didn’t take kindly to his 14th arrest for that charge. Of course his license was permanently revoked because of DUIs. Some people never learn.

Swift is also NOT the company you want to have take your hood off. They will fight having to pay to fix your truck like you wouldn’t believe. I haven’t been hit by Schneider yet, but am looking forward to it… I hear they pay out quickly.

When you have the goods on them BUT GOOD, USXpress pays really well too! Especially when their driver was driving out of hours, before and after the incident.

I'm new to these boards..... I have been promised work after school...I have around 4 DUI's , multipal misdeminers, ...even a pot charge in 07, ..let's throw in a failure to control for fun 08..... NO pts though

DUI's never come off your record.

My last DUI was in 96..I think, .. I can't remember, I was drunk.
The other drama was in the 80's

Why am I allowed to find work, and others cant?

Do have that in writing by the company? Are you sure that it is not just a pre-hire? Just because a company says that they will hire after you get your CDL doesn't mean they will.
