It just seems team driving would make more sense especially in todays economy. The split in pay would seem of no consequence since solo doesnt pay while in the sleeper but can for team

.

Its a scam. You don't make any more money. Unless your husband and husband or what ever kind of team. Companies want teams and slip seat as they can profit the most.

It's really hard for some guys to sleep in a moving truck......I couldn't do it....There are times when the truck is stopped and you both can catch some shuteye, but it didn't happen often enough......

IMO....teams do not get better runs that solo...they get runs better suited for a team truck vice solo truck.

Also....IMO...I doubt you will make more money than a solo. Considering that either the miles or the CPM area split between the drivers. I also heard in some companies the CPM may not be an even split, depending on driver experience.

i've been in jail..... i'd rather run team...

how many companies will deadhead a solo 500 miles to pickup a 600 mile load but it is not uncommon for us to deadhead 650-700 miles to pick up a 1800 trip.

the company we work for. a new solo driver right out of school would make $210 for a 600 mile trip (a one day run)

a new team right ot of school would make $242 each for a 1100 mile trip (a one day run)

as to the cpm split why should a driver with 10 years make the same as a driver with 5 years.....?

The very best way to make more money by running team is to run team with your spouse. Both checks go into the same bank account. Then, you do make out better.

Unless you simply want to go farther on a trip. Teams do get the long runs, but I've found that teams get paid higher because the miles per individual will actually be lower than a solo. However, there are many companies that will arrange for the teams to do all the "drop & hook" loads. Many times, it's a matter of running from one drop yard to another, and it's locals, and even solos that run from there to the customers. If you can get all drop & hook, it certainly does help, but make sure you can sleep in a moving truck. Not everybody can. It's not the same as falling asleep behind the wheel. If you find that you do not sleep well in a bouncing truck, you can get extremely fatigued in a short time. That's not safe. Not everyone can run team for that reason.

I wonder if anyone actually ever gets truly deep REM sleep while bouncing around in a sleeper. I got to the point that I could sleep in a moving truck. This came only after a couple of days back out on the road, and I think that it became merely a survival type reflex. I never felt truly rested. Wake up, shake it off, fill up the 64 ounce insulated coffee mug, jump behind the wheel and begin the next 693 miles, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 11 hours of driving. No matter how used to it you get, I personally just can not see how this can be a healthy way to live.

It's a grind for sure. We used to run 5 and 5. Alas, FMCSA or DOT or whomever, took that option away a couple of years ago.
