Well, if you start your turn from the right land then you are making your turn from the right lane, does New Jersey law say that you cannot use parts of other lanes also. No wonder no one likes going there.........

It's not that big of a deal to go over a curb. Avoid if possible though. Just do it easy and slow. Especially if you are carrying a load on your trailer. You will blow a tire and/or ruin a wheel and or bust and axle/spring if you go fast over a curb with a load.

Where the guy drew the pictures, do the square out, if possible, it is usually the safest way. Just make sure traffic is going to stop for you, don't assume they will. If a 4-wheeler gets in your way DO NOT BACK UP IN TRAFFIC (EVER). Wait for them to move. You can't see what's behind you.

You are a newbie, otherwise you wouldn't be asking. You will learn after a few months.

A lot has been said here, so I will support the guys who say that with experience you can look at your turns and see that it will be tight enough as I'm in a motor trader, so you have to engage the button or not. I would suggest to do it correctly from the first time, especially at sharp turns, in an unfamiliar zone, at two-lane movement on narrow streets. And then try to back up and redo the turn, you have a blind spot there. The button / jug handle has always been the same and I haven't heard it's illegal.
