question regarding cdl
 

Im new to trucking somewhat , i use to escort overdementional loads but im interested in getting my cdl and driving , the tech college in my area has a course and it says its for driving in georgia only , how does a driver get licensed in all states?

I don't know it all but once you have a CDL you must be licensed in the state that is your primary residence,,,, but then are free to move about the country as you compay sees to send you. The truck or company is required to get the permits to travel with in the different states.

Thank You that sounds about right , I know when escorting they have to stop and be permitted for states they are entering and such i guess its the same basically

Since we don't have the full context it may be that KcOiv is correct about the age 21 thing, I can also think of two other possibilities:

It is possible that the school means that you need to already have a Georgia drivers license to attend the school and they can't accept out of state applicants. The paper permit that allows you to drive their equipment in Georgia while in the presence of a qualified instructor is probably only valid for Georgia drivers while in Georgia.

There also may be a funding issue, if that school is funded by the State they won't want out of state people taking advantage of them.

Once you have a CDL and are over the age of 21 you are licensed to drive in all states, simple as that.

Some states like PA allow private examiners for behind the wheel testing (pre-trip, basic skills and road test). I attended a school where some of the instructors were also state examiners. They have to follow the same standards, but they are usually better to deal with than the state people. When you complete the required classroom, range and road work you take your test on the range you trained on. Problem for me was not being a PA resident, so after completing the course I had to be tested in my home state. I had to wait a few weeks to get on the state schedule so it took me longer to get my license than the rest of my class.

You need a B to go interstate as well. Just a B will work, but you can't pull combination vehicle.

Check and see if your state has a restriction for intrastate (I think I got the right one ---- you can only use your CDL in the licensing state). For instance, Texas has a restriction that no what the age you could be restricted to driving commercial vehicles in the state of Texas. The DPS can issue this restriction for a variety of reasons - age and vision waiver.

You might want to ask the school about what they mean by 'only'.
