13 speed

What is the shift pattern for a 13 speed transmission. Is third where fourth usually is and is that why it's so confusing

some of the older ones were that way, but the new ones are just like a 4 speed, you split it in each of the high gears giving you 12 gears and then you have a low where 1st is on a 10 speed. you will rarely if ever use that gear.

They are not really confusing when you get into them, they just take a little time to get used to. yes 3rd is where 4th is on a ten, 4th where 5th was, and you split after fourth gear

Yup... It would be a good idea to learn a 13 speed, because (in my experience) most trucks you'll come across are 13's. Then there's 10 and 18. It can be confusing because they count the 'Low gear' as first gear. Everything is counted after that. I'm not sure what the low gear is good for, I've personally never used it. With a 13, you split half the gears; with an 18, you split every gear (both in low range & high range). However, you can drive an 18 speed like a 13... or you could just take each whole gear and split none of them!

a 13 speed is nothing more than a 9 speed with the ability to split the top set of gears...An 18 speed same thing but you can also split the basement as well ...So 9 speed 13 ,and 18 all the same eaton fuller transmission .

As Fredog mentioned, a 13 speed is an 8 speed. You can just make half shifts in the upper gears by flipping a switch. I'm sure you'll like it.
