GMAN 11-11-2007 09:31 AM

You need to ask for another trainer.

Mr. Ford95 11-11-2007 10:18 AM

That's not a driver or trainer, that's a wreck waiting to happen. Tell your company so you can get a real trainer and maybe get this guy off the road.

Copperhead 11-11-2007 10:23 AM

As a driver finisher (trainer) for over a decade... I have no problem saying that your trainer is a real piece of work and needs to get out of it.

Get another trainer. You deserve better than that useless piece of human waste. There is no excuse for what you described. He is just interested in an extra logbook and more miles. I would love to meet him behind some trailers in a drop yard and give him some further training. He is giving trainers a bad name and I take it personnaly.

Oh well. Unfortunately, we have those types in the industry.

Drew10 11-11-2007 10:26 AM

You need to "ask" for a new company.
Those are not poor habits they are intolerable. Negligence like that, cannot be covered up by the driver. The company must be aware of this type of practice. Continue with this company and expect to run the same as your so called trainer is demonstrating!!

coalregion 11-11-2007 10:46 AM

No sleep, not eating and running non-stop sure sound like symptoms of a bad habit. Sounds to me like this trainer has a problem with his methods, with a heavy emphasis on the "METH" in that word. I'd definitely be looking to swap trainers f I were you.

Part Time Dweller 11-11-2007 11:21 AM

And you wonder why the push for EOBR's?

Switching trainers won't help, the company knows what is going on.

Why not do everyone a favor and drop the dime on this company?

Welcome to the wonderful world of coolie-carrier OTR trucking. Although this guy is really a bad apple, the majority of drivers fudge it one way or another. Falisfying dock-time, traffic jams, PTI's, start times, speed averaging...drivers do whatever they can to stay off line 4 or illegally extend their 14. Really, the DOT should make logbooks with lines 1,2, and 3 only LOL.

E-mail your elected representatives. Get them to support EOBR's to make our highways safer. Of course, then you'll incur the wrath of the OOIDA.

Soladad 11-11-2007 12:43 PM

Get another trainer. If the company you are currently with gives you problems then get another company. Training needs to be positive to give you the experience so you can do the job when you are done with the training and out on your own.
There are lots of good trainers out there and better companies to do your training with. Don't let this trainer/company get away with this.
We need to get these type of trainers out of training and the only way to do this is to blow the whistle on them. Don't put your life in this guy's hands.

Bengalman 11-11-2007 01:08 PM

thanks for the help. i really hate to tell on the guy but i also dont want to look bad to the company when i ask for a new trainer. i will call them in the morning

inmate1577 11-11-2007 01:12 PM

Contact the company immediately. All this guy is doing is teaching you how to fail and his license needs to be pulled. If he insists you do your logbook like his..........dont.

Uhhh, you're not dropping a dime or ratting anyone out. You're protecting your future and life!! A "jerkoff" like that could get you both killed. I suggest a new trainer, and even possibly a new company. As one other poster said...the company is probably aware of the bs...and is doing a "wink and nod" as far as safety goes.... IF this is the case...run like hell. Your life and future is at stake.

CYA!! and that does not mean C-Ya!!

Bengalman 11-11-2007 02:40 PM

i dont think the company knows. they seem to be very strict on the logs if you have bad audits they will put you through a day long class first then let you go if you dont clean it up. i dont know how this guy gets away with it but i was with him for 5 days and i know he's playing the game and he might get burned.

If they don't know it is only because they don't want to know.
Change companies. The fact that they made this jerkoff a "trainer" says a whole lot about them.........

harleypiper 11-11-2007 07:32 PM

Man, there are a whole lot of innocent people you just might save by getting this guy off the road, at the very least some type of disciplinary action againt him.Tell your mananger and if they refuse to take action, take notes and get the hell out of there.

inmate1577 11-12-2007 12:06 AM

The company might not know that this "trainer" is operating this way. A lot of times newbs are afraid to be "whistleblowers" for fear of getting canned because they think that a trainer is somehow responsible for their future employment. A trainer has ZERO impact if a trainee gets hired after the training period, its up to the company. Also these rogue trainers will (although not directly) make it clear that they do have a say in the future of the trainee's employment.

Dont get bullied by a trainer, report him immediately.

Bengalman 11-12-2007 02:22 AM

thanks inmate, i called told them everything and he said he will call the trainer and get his side i told him i will not put my life in his hands that i need a new trainer and one who will train me. i told him that i would be a good driver im safe and i want to do it right. i"m not going to worry about it i will get my cdl another way. thanks everybody

Bengalman 11-12-2007 07:30 AM

cool they put me with the trainer that i wanted from the start

LilBit 11-12-2007 07:33 AM

Good to hear your news on getting a new trainer over there :)

Wishing you all the best in your journey ;)

harleypiper 11-12-2007 08:07 AM

Good for you Beng for taking a stand. I hope they take into consideration that you could take alot of b.s. for coming forward and not just take his side because he's the trainer. Cudos

what ais EOBR's
Electronic On Board Recorder
It's device that will be used to cut down on drivers who like to falseify thier logs. :D I think every truck should have one.

Mr. Ford95 11-12-2007 10:28 AM

Bengalman, wouldn't mind naming the company would you?? I mean, sounds like they were about to take your claim and sweep it under the doormat. That's a company that needs to be steered away from if they are going to act like it's ok for what your trainer was doing. You did good at putting them on the spot because you knew the trainer wasn't going to give the same story as you did.

Bengalman 11-12-2007 11:06 AM

i dont know if i should name the company i need to try and not get to deep into this but i really think they do not put up with this type of driver they might be watching him now. i did not want to get him in trouble i just did not want to drive under those conditions

AlexJ81 11-12-2007 12:38 PM

Am I the only person whose starting to think this whole situation is starting to sound a tad bit fishy?

Bengalman 11-12-2007 01:06 PM

why do you say that because i dont want to give the company name. im not on here to bash the company just the trainer. the company i think is a great company to start with. all the drivers seem real positive.

AlexJ81 11-12-2007 02:08 PM

Then why not share this great company with all upcoming new drivers? :-)

Darin Younce 11-12-2007 02:20 PM

millis transfer

Jarhed1964 11-12-2007 03:24 PM

Interesting. This sounds EXACTLY like the trainer I had with a large flatbed company out of Iowa.

No food, little sleep, "hot" logbooks, shut down by Safety in my first week on the road with him, and to top it all off, he freaks out if/when you miss a gear. Had me to the point that when he was sleep (in the passenger seat), I drove better. Overall, I was a worse driver after 2.5 weeks with him then when I left Orientation.

I cringe when I see 379 Petes now.

shortround 11-12-2007 06:59 PM

get off the truck

are you nuts get off that death truck now .your life and many otheirs are at risk with this guy .no one needs to put up with that king of training i agree with the otheirs on here he gives trainers and drivers a bad name tell your company asap .at the rate yous are going a accidents bound to happen just when and how bad is your life worth protecting this clown.

Millis Transfer

Bengalman,
Thanks for naming the company. What is the driver's name and what terminal does he run out of so other newbs can avoid him? Good on ya' for dropping a dime on him. BOL

coalregion 11-13-2007 07:31 AM

I'm not big on "ratting" people out for anything, but you definitely did the right thing here. I just hope Millis follows up on this and does something about this azz clown before he takes out a carload of innocent people. :x

11-13-2007 07:59 AM

Sounds like the so called TRAINING program has not changed since I left them 8 years ago. They were doing crap like that then no wonder in the 6 months I was there we had 15 trucks end up on their sides.

jonekatz1 11-14-2007 05:01 AM

New Trainer

What did you say the name of this Transportation Co Is ?

11-14-2007 05:28 AM

Millis Transfer. They are out of Black River Falls WI run nice Shiny KW's but have a bad rep anymore. Pull mostly beer bottles loaded and empties and alot of Butt paper and scraps to make more of same with.

jonekatz1 11-14-2007 05:38 AM

New Trainer

I was under the impression Millis was a pretty straight Up outfit. I do remember they had a training program years ago. I also thought you had to have a CDL-A drivers permit to run the road. at least I think that was the case in NY state ?

cpmorpheous 11-14-2007 11:46 AM

Scratched off my list...they were far down the bottom but I, too, was under the impression that Millis was a straight-up company.....thanks for the heads-up.

softnrough 11-17-2007 06:53 PM

I had the same thing happen to me when I was training with IDE. My trainer wanted me to drive appx 3 hours before starting my drivetime, i refused, she kicked me off her truck. When i explained whatg happened to the DM, his response was " it's your choice but shes the boss" "she has a good driving record". When I decided to not get back on her truck, she said " Shes not worried, they have her back". Interesting that they will fire their drivers for logbook violations but look the other way for the trainers. I quit the company with a week left to go
