What is required to get clearance for my wife to ride with me. Does she have to pass a back ground check. :twisted:

What's your company say? Usually a driver just has to pay the rider insurance. BOL

It's federal fmsca regs that any passenger in the truck have written approval from your company.

As for a background check, the answer would probably be no unless the carrier pulls "sensitive" materials, such as military, high level hazmat, etc.

Also, if the carrier goes into Canada, be sure to carry the riders original (with a stamped seal) birth certificate and/or a passport.

Ditto. Only a true independent owner operator running under his own authority...does not need it. Even O/O's leased to a company have to comply with the requirement.... to the best of my knowledge.

Ditto again. And if the driver goes to certain chemical plants or "sensitive facilities" the rider may be required to exit the truck at the gate and wait for the driver to come out. I have seen cases where a "team driver" has to get out and wait. No sleeping allowed on site.

Many companies require a signed release of liability. If you go to a company that goes to Canada have her paperwork so he can go with you.

I forget where I picked a load before when my wife was with me. She wasn't even allowed to sit in the guardhouse while I was being loaded. I had to go almost 80 miles down the road to a truckstop to drop her off, go back to load, then back to the truckstop.

Talk about a PITA - there was nothing in the info the company sent about this and the back and forth between the truckstop was waaaaaay out of route. Plus after I picked her back up, I had to go right back past the place I loaded to go to the delivery.

It's not a common occurrence but it does happen. Be prepared for anything out here. Hehe

You left your wife 80 miles away and went back to get her? Man I bet that was an ear full as you went right back past the place you loaded. My wife will not ride so I know if she did I might as well not go back for her because she would have gotten a taxi and a rent a car and gone home. You better keep your wife she sounds like a keeper to me.

what was u hauling that day why your wife could not come on site? I think my wife would have been mad also.. You should thank GOD u have an understanding wife..
