So in a nutshell. If you want a CDL, you will have to go to a CDL school to get your Class A. |
Thanks for that, my friend works in Canada and works in US somtimes
|
You can, however, change a Canadian Class 1 for a US CDL A, provided, ofcourse, that you have the proper immigration / residency clearances and permits. This might be different from state to state though. When I checked with DMV in Pennsylvania, they said that it could be done.

thanks for that I will look into that, do you think I would end up with class
A with a temp 1yrs license? |
hey am an immigrant you have to have a resident permit either permanent resident of temporally resident to apply for a CDL A lic. with your driving experience you could pick up a manual from a state of your choice read it do the written test pass it and you could rent a truck with a trailer then go take the test. and you be fine. but here are down side of it most company will want to hire some one from a school or has a diploma from a CDL school, also you most be legal in the state to be able to apply for the CDL lic.

A with a temp 1yrs license? I'd contact the DMV (Department or Division of Motor Vehicles, variously) in whatever state you plan to emigrate to. You'll have to get a CDL from one (and only one) particular state, and it seems likely that the rules for what could transfer how would vary from state to state. Or maybe not. It might be a DHS/INS/federal thing. Good luck! |
I'm sure your UK license is perfectly valid for the passanger seat here!
|
In what way? driving as a second? that would be great if pos.
RED  |
:o NOOOOOO! What I mean is, that your license is valid for the same seat as
in the UK. You guys still have the wheel on the wrong side, don't you? Last time I was there, in 2000, you guys wrer still doing it backwards. |

Above is pretty much what Virginia DMV told me when I asked if it was possible to tranfer a UK licence, "I take it you mean no then" LOL. When I applied for my present job and they asked for any experience I just put " 3 yrs driving CDL in England" BOL |
In a roundabout way, yes. That is what I mean.
