Running hard
Some guys like to run hard 3000 - 3500 miles per week
I am not pressed for money, got no expenses Is it possible to get into a routine of just 300 to 400 miles a day for 7 days for a total of 2100 to 2800 mile per week Just actual driving time of 8 hour a day Try to make it like a fixed schedule like working overnights. I like working evening to morning and sleeping morning to afternoon. Does this only happen on dedicated accounts? :D |
Generally speaking, if you are wanting a predictable schedule, then trucking is probably not for you. As far as the hours you want to drive, (i.e.; driving the "graveyard run", I think that is an excellent idea.
I drove at nights every chance I got. Safer, fewer clusterf*@ks, better quality of dirvers, no clammouring for a parking spot at a truck stop. But you will have to balance that with dock times for the shipper and the consignee!! After you gain some experience, then you may have a shot at a decent dedicated run that offers predictability and brings you home everyday. |
have you ever thought of gas, gas haulers go round the clock, always looking for guys to drive nights, as half of a slip seat, hope this helps.

Yeah my body clock is adjusted to grave yard shift
been working it for sometime now How could this work for recievers I guess they all don't have eary morning drop times? Nothing is perfect and I expect not too much that way I will not be frustrated all the time but be happy when things go as planned. I was thinking about tankers seems to be a good gig from what I've read on some post are you happy pulling gas? |

Every trip will be to Atlanta (350 miles) and every backhaul will go to Memphis (100 miles the other direction). Then back home to pick up another load. I will be home in one form or another nearly every day. Sometimes I get to sleep at home and sometimes just to spend the afternoon. I always start Sunday night. I do not have a dedicated account, just several in the same area. Yeah. It's possible, but probably not at first. |
Just remember that the Reason a company wants a product delivered By Truck from Point A to Point B is that they want it there the quickest way possible.

Have you thought about LTL linehaul? They run mostly at night. One of the local bakeries around here runs nights, less than 400 miles I think.

Must be a really big bakery outfit.

Yeah they are, Interstate Brands/Meritta, a national company. A far cry from a local bakery I guess :)
