How Do I Know When It's My Time???
 

Well, to say I want to drive a truck is an understatement. I have ate, slept, and drank trucking since I came into this world about 27 years ago! My dad had a big enfluence on that - he has been an owner-operator for about 35 years. I still ride and help him out alot, but even with his advise I want to try and make a run at it. The problem for me is getting over the decision of trying to become one. Like I said.... I know all about the industry through my dad, but even with all my own experiece at it, I am afraid to try and make a run at it. Dont know if I am afraid that I will hate it, or if I am afraid that I will like it? Still just sitting here twisting my thumbs everyday thinking that tomorrow will be the day I call the recruiter, and it never happens :!:

whats going on man. My advice to you is to do whats in your heart and by reading what was said that you been around trucking for a long time and you have doubts about doing it than you really need to sit down and see if this is for you because you have alot of doubts.

Maybe if it is that difficult of a decision after being around it for most of your life, that it isn't for you. On the other and, your father may have discouraged you from pursuing the business, thus the conflict. If you can't make a decision, try using a coin. :P Another good way to make a difficult decision is to get a piece of paper and make two columns. In one
column list the benefits of doing it. In the other column list the drawbacks of doing it. The list which winds up being longer is the way to go.

I say give trucking a shot as a company driver. If in a few months, you decide that trucking isn't for you, just go back to what you are doing for a living right now. But if you don't give it a shot, you may end up 50 years old wondering "What if?". At least this way you will be at peace in your mind.

if you have been around the industry this long and out on the road with your dad and you cant make the decision to be a driver then I say the lifestyle is not for you
