A reckless driving charge is a serious offense when it comes to hiring you to pilot an 80,000lb vehicle. Usually, it has to be three years or more since the charge before even the large OTR companies will look at you.

Your best bet is to talk to the person hiring for the job and be very upfront about your record, and what you've done since then. They may tell you to try again in a year, or they may have an insurance company willing to bend the rules.

One of the first things any potential employer will do is pull an MVR. Until a couple of years ago, your class C MVR didn't follow you if you got a Class A. That changed and now everything is available for anyone pulling your MVR to see. If you do get your CDL, you want to make sure to keep your nose clean. Even something in your personal vehicle will show up on your CDL/MVR. Companies may look at the same offense differently. I recently had an applicant who received a ticket in a 4 wheeler. My insurance company turned him down flat. The ticket was for doing 80 in a 55. Until that comes off his record, I can't hire him. I know of one insurance company who will allow up to 4 offenses on the CDL. Something such as this excessive speeding ticket can easily knock a driver out of his career. I also suggest calling some potential employers and ask them about your chances of working with them. There are several recruiters on this forum who would be willing to talk to you about it. Sheepdancer, Blue Bettle, Scoe and Twilight Flyer are all recruiters. They can give you their perspective on the matter.
