Turned down by TMC, next suggestions?

My husband is finishing driving school this week. He really wanted to flatbed, got turned down by TMC, still have an app out for Maverick we'll see how that goes. We're looking for decent hometime (2 weeks or so out or less) and not bottom of the barrel pay but it doesn't have to be great either. He is now looking at van/reefer, etc, but doesn't want to do Hazmat.
He was home for 3 years with our children while I was working, and that is the source of the trouble getting approved (that was a year ago, he's had one job since).
Any suggestions postive or negative would be helpful, thanks.

Have you looked at Southern Refrigerated Transport? They will take students out of school. They seem to have a pretty decent reputation. Maverick would be my first choice if they give him a pre-hire.

Its going to be hard to get what your asking. He might just have to bite the bullet and take something that might not be exactly what he is looking for. But after a while he can look for something else. Most company's want continuous employment of a few years and up to ten at Maverick asks for ten but you never know. Good luck to you.

I was under the impression that they had the training then put you with another "newbie" to run as a team first, from another thread. Something about that just doesn't seem right to me... BUT we may get there.
Thanks for the info

Well, so far at least according the their website Melton is flatbed, but requires at least 3 months experience if I'm reading correctly. Do you know that they hire newbies?

Did you try calling the TMC recruiter and asking them if there was any thing that would change their mind? Perhaps some extra information or a cover letter would ease their fears.

You see the recruiter hands the application at TMC off to a member of the hiring committee. All that they see is a gap in your employment history. They don't know why. Perhaps you could list that time on the employment history and put your job as homemaker/ house husband or something like that. You will need a reference letter from a Clergy person and/or Lawyer verifying that you were not employed but stayed home caring for children and were not incarcerated or involved with terrorist activities. . .

Do the application the right way and TMC may give you another chance. With the 95 people this week they may not need as many new drivers and will be more selective about who they will accept. With a less stable work history you may not make it through orientation and the hard work that TMC expects. You may need to prove them wrong and keep fighting for that job. If you work hard for what you want that shows good character.
