bobtail - first day in the truck IIRC. Haven't thought about it much as I never could see doing that again. Seriously - then again the guy I was with - needed the help - he had never driven stick before.......

Yooper,
It also sounded crazy to me when I first heard it at the Peterbilt dealership. But, when I left I tried it and sure enough it crawls along but it can be done until you get to too high of a gear. |

We did it one day - then we hooked the wagon on. My instructor was this old school O/O that never drove for SNI. He just took the job as trainer to be home. Guy used to drive a Marmon of all things. He didn't complain when I floated the gears but warned me that big orange wouldn't let that fly on the test.
Spent something like 10 days with the trailer I think. Don't really remember. All I know is I passed my cdl and they only took off 1 point for not backing up straight enough. BS - they never pass anyone 100%. Guy I was with - man he liked to go from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5. Me I went 2, 4, 6 - get moving !!! |
Your Definition of "Back in the Day" and Mine differ by about 20 yrs. :P
|
Hey I am only 29 :) Just know a bunch has changed at SNI in the last coupla years so "back in the day" seemed correct :)

I have driven a truck almost 30 yrs, most of my trucks being rather quick and could never do that. Please post these stories in the make believe forum...lol |
I drove for Schneider "Back in the Day" and I don't ever remember doing that. Oh Well.
Must have had an awful fast Idle. I went through SNI this year, and we drove around an industrial park. Practiced shifting gears without the fuel pedal. |
