evinrude, just cause you hate your life and job don't group us all together. proffession, career, job...how ever one wants to say it. and how does a 55 mph truck translate into cheap labor. or is that your wa of trying to insult the drivers out there and show your hate and discontent for you job. i happen to love my job, if driving 3mph, or even 10mph slower saves my job then i will gladly do it.

Quote: Turn them down! Finally, I will be able to pass some other trucks out there...
Now we will have even more trucks trying out the 10 mile pass or is it the 10 mile race since neither one really passes the other until one of them gives up and decides to let off. It's like a standoff, what should we call this standoff?

thanks for your input . 65 mph drop down to 55 at the same cpm is cheaper labor, simple math. My intent was to show how companies cut back, than ask the government for more money to train new drivers as there drivers are quiting. And CEO's still make there million dollar bonus.
Btw go and ask your boss for a 10 percent cut. I am sure that he could work something out with you. But don't take the rest of us down with you.

Glad to see you love your job, you must not be OTR?

Well if we get Hillary or Obama, look for 55mph trucks. They have both stated that they would like to turn the national speed limit back down to 55mph.

I saw that Con-way did turn their trucks down to 62 mph.

I drove for my company when the speed limit was 55 mph nationwide.
The trucks would run 62 max speed and we had a fuel bonus and in order to get it you could run no faster than 57.

Today the trucks run 65 mph and I average no more miles today than I did back then. It is all about trip planning and keeping the left door closed.

I admit that I prefer the 65 mph , but with fuel as high as it is I do find myself driving in the 55-60 range when I can.

You're wrong.

It is NOT cheaper labor. It would take the driver longer to do the route, but it would NOT result in cheaper labor!

If you have to pay a driver a certain rate per mile, and the amount of miles in the route are the same, you are paying the EXACT SAME AMOUNT!!!

a 500 mile trip, paying $.35 a mile to the driver will pay the same, whether it takes 8 hours, 10 hours, or for that matter 30 hours!

Quit bitching for the sake of bitching! Find something REAL to complain about or SHUT UP!

I get better fuel milage running 68 all day long than I do at 55, at least that's what the computer says. I'll average 6.3 at 68 and 5.7 at 55-60.
