Kona, I think its hopeless. You're hooked!
I don't think you should act on any advice you might get from here. Its too complicated to get one or two lines of advice (e.g. dump her, forget about otr, etc.) You have to sort that out for yourself.
Some pre-marital counseling might help to sort things out and allow both of you to talk freely about your dilemma is a safe way. There might be a compromise you can both live with. Like maybe doing the I-5 north south route that will get you home more often, but still give you what you need.
I wish you the best of luck at what ever you decide to do.

I've been married for 21 years....boy do I have the urge to go OTR. So I can relate to that. I can tell you this.
You lose either way. If you go OTR, you make her mad. If you stay home, you make yourself mad.
In todays world, relationships never last. More than 50% of all marriages end in divorce court.
On the other hand, your truck will never complain to you. Your truck will never leave you. Your truck will never cheat on you. And almost every night, you get to sleep with your truck. And when she is worn out, and no good, you can go get a younger one.
One marriage or the other....which would you like to have?

Mine dumped me last summer after a year and a half...
...I listened to my pocketbook
Now she still calls and we talk, because she wants me back. My mom told her to deal with it or dump me  There are plenty more women out there, thats my advice.

Some years ago, I had a girlfriend that had it in her mind that she was going to change me into the man she wanted.
In her mind, she wanted a guy that wore a suit and tie. Well, she's long gone, and I'm still driving.
For you to give up a dream of yours, all in the name of a girl. That is so not fair to you. As a local driver myself, It will get old, and it will get old fast.
I'm not telling you to dump her. But, at the very least. You two need to sit down, and have a nice long talk.

Kona, I feel your pain more than you realize.
I've been in two long term relationships where I finally listened to the other half begging and pleading me to come off the truck. The "Baby Come Home" Syndrome if you will. I did it and was miserable. I would get up on the interstate and drive with a few trucks just to feel like I was on the road again. I had stopped talking to many of my driving friends - particularly with me being female he was always concerned I was going to go run away with another driver
Each time though, the relationship eventually imploded because neither of us was happy at all. I'd end up heartbroken and back on a truck - and immediately much happier, and he went and found someone else that could be the homemaker he wanted.
Now I'm in a relationship where he understands my job and my lifestyle. I compromised by finding a company where I'm home every week but still turning a California turnaround running team with one of my best friends. I make great money, have my friends back, still have my truck and see the country - am with a great company... and have a wonderful man who loves me for who I am.
No one on here can tell you what to do... but sometimes you need to sit down and figure out your priorities.

if your not 30 you better run till your burned out on it.it wont work if your worried about what someone your not with is doing.alot of people live in a truck and pay alimony and child support and dont have a choice.think of the investing you could do and different women you could meet in 34 hours.i saw one driver who posted that he saved 300000 $ in 7 years. make her hair turn gray.
Dang Twi, when you put it like that.................that would make me more confused. That was deep dude.
LMAO
Yep Kona-You got the addiction and it doesn't take very long driving to get it. You're hooked.

Well guy's, I just broke up with a girl that I really, really liked after 1.5 years... If only I didn't throw trucking into the relationship 8 months in... doh.
I'll be calling gordon on monday and hopefully getting my job back... It's been done before from other people I know so I have a little bit of hope. If that gig doesn't work out, then I'll be driving for (fill in the name here). I don't know yet, we'll see.
eek.
