i know you aren't suppose to give the little ones any meds for a cold, but i still do. i usually give him a decongestant at night so he can sleep. it was okay for my daughter to take meds when she was a baby, but not now? it doesn't make sense. just make sure you don't over medicate, that's all. i only give it at night, just to sleep. the rest of the time we had the humidifer going and the vicks vapor rub on his back and chest.

little ones and colds are so hard on them and you.

Yesterday morning, Ben just finished a huge prescription of amoxillin (500 mg, three times a day) for his strep throat. This morning...fever is 101, he's hoarse and his cough sounds like a bark. He's home again. I don't know what to do!!

It is nothing more than a liability issue. The drug companies are scared of being sued by idiots who can not and/or will not follow dosing instructions. The really sad part is that these idiots include doctors, PA's, and NP's.

While sometimes the infant cold medicines were simply lower doses of the same stuff given to older kids it wasn't always so. Sometimes the infant meds had lower medicine counts to them as well.

Oh and I do agree. It sucks big time that there is no longer anything you can give a small kid for a cold OTC.

I made Ben some hot honey lemon water. He's so much better today than yesterday. I gave him a breathing treatment, a shot of advair and ran the cool mist vaporizer over him all night last night.

I have been giving them the Ricola cough drops but they don't seem to be doing anything and the kids just eat them like candy...

On a lighter note...I have given my kids too many cough drops, apparently...I got some more the other night while I was at Walgreens. My son had asked for me to get a different kind but...I just HATE to take orders...so I did it my way. I brought in the Ricola. My son asked me what kind I got...I said..."ReeeeCOLA"...like the commercial. He said.."Mom...I'm sick of those..they taste like crap." Then he sang..."FeeeeeCOLA..." I had to laugh. It WAS funny!
