some of you may not be old enough to remember the Porter Wagner Show this is Dolly Parton singing a song she wrote after the break up of her and Porter. This is the version I like best, Whitney Huston over sings this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS-F4rfU4ns&spfreload=10 |

Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton, Lester Flat and Earl Schruggs, The Willis Brothers are some that I remember having weekly TV shows.
|
I remember seeing this on TV. Roy Clark was one of my favorite guitarists and he was great on a banjo too.

Always liked this song.
Clapton is a blues player, but does a good job showing his country side on this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pNjn9wse98&spfreload=10 |

There was a show called Hee Haw back in the 60's or early 70's. It was like a country version of Laugh In. For those not old enough to remember, it was sort of a country variety show. Most of the major country artists of the time were on the show, as well as many new people. It had comedy and some corny skits. It was entertaining and clean fun for the entire family. I knew a guy who was on the show several times. Roy Clark is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen. He was a regular on the show. I would love to see the show back on the air. There was nothing controversial about the show. It was just clean fun. There was an innocence about the show that made fun of itself.
|
Hee Haw was a regular in our home , we always had some good laughs. ;)
|
:) I loved Hee Haw and one bit I sang a lot was "Where oh where are you tonight"
this one is for Mitch… ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmIyvXITUvs&spfreload=10 |
here is another Hee Haw song I always joined in on, and my family raised Bloodhounds too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAAKPJEq1Ew&spfreload=10 |
Grandpa, Stringbean and some of the other regulars on Hee Haw are no longer with us. Hee Haw was just clean fun for the entire family. Of course, back then, most shows were clean. Glen Campbell, George Jones and other top country singers performed at one time or another on the Hee Haw stage. I always like Junior and his car lot. Call BR 549 (I think). I would like to see them resurrect the show, but I doubt it would be as good as the original. We need clean shows for the family to watch today.

You remember pickin' & grinnin' with Buck Owens and Roy Clark? hahahahahaha (this is with Buck Trent)
Roy is still alive, he's 82 and ….. apparently it's hard to remember jokes at that age… ;) this is so funny… also, playing guitar with old fingers and can't remember all the notes… I can relate to that! :o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NnZP82TBbM#t=33 |
I remember that segment very well. Buck Owens was actually from Fresno, California, I believe and Roy Clark was from Connecticut or somewhere in New England somewhere. You would never know by their accents. Both sounded like they grew up in the South. How about Minnie Pearl? That wasn't her real name. She came from an affluent family and somehow got into country music. Her real name is attached to some of the cancer clinics.
|
Sarah Colley aka Minnie Pearl
|
Thanks, freebrdrfd. I could not remember her real name, even though we have a cancer center in my town named for her. She did a lot to make people's lives better and brought a lot of joy to people of all ages.

I just heard Shania is doing her last tour this summer.
I gotta bring my A-game to make it past the security, this time. :p Hope she doesn't bring that horse, looks like he'd stomp me for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKf_5vQODbU&spfreload=10 |

:) hey Kuz, how you bin? ...remember Mother Maybelle? she was making hit songs the year I was born.
I grew up remembering her and that big Gibson guitar. She also had her daughters play in a band and sing with her, called the Carter Sisters. Johnny Cash married one of the sisters, June Carter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8szdi1D7OE&spfreload=10 |
they called Mother Maybelle's guitar style --Carter Scratchin' which played the bass, rhythm and melody.
I hear Blue grass guitar, was influenced from her style of picking and grinning. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUn-poI3gWA&spfreload=10 |
This is one of the most powerful songs to me, maybe because Cash was so frail when he recorded this.
He died shortly after this song. RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l95D7leeU3w&spfreload=10 |
I saw Willie Nelson on TV a few nights ago. The first song that came to mine was "On the road again." The second was "All the girls I have known?" I don't recall if that is the actual name. He did one version with Julio Igleses.

One thing that I like about country music is that they tell a story about life. And you can understand the words!lol
