First of all, i don't like the whole idea of tipping in general.
So... you've never worked a job where your paycheck only pays the taxes and you live off the tips? Neither have I. Just wanted to make that clear. If I had to guess... I'd guess you're a Republican.

If the shower is clean, as it should be, then that is their job to begin with.
Yes, it is. A menial job at best. Low wages, little respect or chance of advancement. Something I doubt YOU would do if your family's lifestyle depended on it. Repetitive. Depressing. Requiring MORE courage than either of US have when getting in our trucks and making what we do.

Now, if the person on-duty really went out of their way in terms of service towards me personally, then i might tip. For example, i forgot the name of the Petro right at the ohio/indiana line on I-70, but they let me shower for free when i moaned at the $12 dollar charge w/out diesel fill up. In that case, i might tip, but i didn't.
Some of them DO. Most of them anonymously. You moaned about paying for a shower? You work for a company that won't let you put 50 gals in when you want/need to? They accommodated you... and you STILL didn't tip? You probably got that shower with "points" earned for standing next to your truck and pouring in fuel... and you can't hit the hip for a few bucks?

Bottom line---don't believe in it. i've only been tipped as a driver maybe three times out of the thousands of deliveries i've made and 1 out of the three was because the customer really didn't want to deal with me anymore that night.
I can't believe it! You expect to get TIPPED for making a delivery? Isn't that part of your "low wage" job?

I tip the person that cleans, but then again she also cooks my meals and washes my clothes! :)
